JCB Mohr (Paul Siebeck) Peter in the Gospels: Pattern, Personality and Relationship
Timothy Wiarda examines the way Peter is portrayed in the narratives of the canonical gospels and reflects on the implications of that portrayal. He gives attention to aspects of Peter's individual characterization and his relationship with Jesus as well as to a recurring motif in which Peter makes a well intentioned move only to meet with rebuke, correction or failure. Timothy Wiarda draws several conclusions: a consistent and distinctive cluster of traits is associated with Peter in the gospel narratives; each of the evangelists displays specific interest in Peter as a character; and a model of conservative redaction rooted in the memory of the earliest Christians best explains the gospel presentation. In addition the author pays attention to methodology in his study. He offers fresh exegetical analysis of fifteen gospel episodes, seeking to demonstrate the importance of sensitivity to the immediate narrative scene and to details of characterization. He argues that such sensitivity can serve as corrective to approaches which move too quickly toward symbolic/theological interpretation while bypassing an episode's realistic portrayal of human responses and interactions. He further explores the interplay between story, rhetoric, and history. The author concludes that all three of these interests come together in the narrative material of the gospels and that there is no inherent obstacle to an integrating approach to interpretation.

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Teaching 1 Peter: Unlocking the book of 1 Peter for the Bible Teacher
There are commentaries, and there are books on preaching - but very few books that combine elements of both to enable the preacher or Bible teacher to prepare and present a series on specific sections of Scripture. This series gives the Bible teacher suitable tools to understand the context of Biblical books; doctrinal themes; the methods of interpretation; the key teaching points and how to deliver that message to the audience.Whilst very useful for preachers, this book is also aimed at enabling youth workers and small group study leaders have the confidence they need to teach Biblical principles and doctrine.Teaching 1 Peter looks at the first letter from the Apostle Peter to a primarily Gentile audience scattered around Asia Minor. Angus enables the leader to explain the context of this letter and its relevance to a contemporary setting where Gentile Christians were surrounded by a pagan culture. He also enables the leader to apply practical theology to specific situations that still affect the church today. This is the latest addition to the Teaching the Bible series.

This reader brings together for the first time a collection of his most distinctive work, allowing readers to review changes and continuities over the past six decades, and reflect on social issues that have returned to the fore today. A particular feature of the volume is in tracing the links between empirical evidence and both social theory and social policy, and how those disciplines intersect. Karnac Books Peter Pan, the Lost Child
Originally published in 1992 in French as Peter Pan ou l’Enfant Triste, the book was translated into English in 1997 and released as Peter Pan: The Story of Lost Childhood. This new English language version is translated by author Kathleen Kelley-Lainé and enriched with the addition of an epilogue from the author plus a new foreword from renowned psychoanalyst Jonathan Sklar. Peter Pan, “young innocent and heartless”, with his baby tooth smile is one of the most popular heroes of fiction of both children and adults for over one hundred years. The author explores this mythical figure, both as a story as well as a metaphor, revealing the hidden traumas and psychological conundrums of this “Lost Child”. The evocative and lyrical style takes the reader through multiple levels of understanding of this seemingly simple “fairy tale”, into the tragic story of its author J. M. Barrie and of other Peter Pans who never grow up. In Peter Pan, the Lost Child, psychoanalyst Kathleen Kelley-Lainé explores Peter Pan’s light-hearted escapades and uncovers a sad, lost child behind the ‘baby tooth’ smile. She uses the story as a framework for the stories of her patients to show how their own Peter Pan manifests, giving a unique insight into how childhood events can block growth into adulthood. She also investigates the sinister side of author James Mathew Barrie as it relates to his Peter Pan tale, and addresses her own family history and its links to The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up. Little by little, as the book progresses, Kelley-Lainé’s lost childhood emerges as a child who fled with her family from war-torn Hungary after the Second World War to the ‘promised land’ of Canada. These three interwoven storylines take the reader on a literary journey to uncover secrets and hidden emotions. Kelley-Lainé makes clear that the child who cannot grow up, the Peter Pan raging inside the adult, needs to be heard and understood. Only then can that lost child have a chance to find the road to maturity.
