Schiffer Publishing Ltd Jezreel Valley Mysteres: The Mystere IVA in Israeli Air Force Service, Squadron 109, 1956-1968
Israel acquired sixty-one Dassault Mystere IVA combat aircraft from France that were delivered to the Israeli Air Force from April to September 1956 and were issued to two units: Squadron 101 at Hatzor, in the south, and Squadron 109 at Ramat David, in the north. From 1956 until 1959, and to a lesser extent from 1959 until 1962, the Mystere was the ILAF's cutting-edge interceptor. From 1959, the Mystere's main mission shifted from air-to-air to air-to-ground, as more modern interceptors—Super Mystere from 1959 and Mirage from 1962—entered Israeli Air Force service. At the same time, the Israeli Air Force initiated an effort to introduce an attack aircraft to succeed the Mystere. The Squadron 109 Mystere era therefore covered mostly air-to-air from 1956 until 1962 and mostly air-to-ground from 1962 until 1968.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd On the Western Front: Eyewitness Accounts from Australians in the Great War
Historian Michael Enright provides a close-up account of Australian servicemen on the Western Front during WWI. Using many previously unpublished, first-hand materials, the author provides a fresh look at the Great War through the eyes of ordinary servicemen. The scene is set with a brief account of events at Gallipoli, the place where the Australians gained their reputation as fierce fighters, and then the author discusses the reformation of the ANZAC divisions in Egypt and their subsequent movement to France. This leads to previously unpublished personal accounts that give new interpretations of the key battles on the Western Front at Fromelles, Somme, Bullecourt, Messines, Passchendaele, and Villers-Bretonneux, amongst others. Many of these accounts support the particular bravery of the Australian soldier. This work provides a reassessment of the ANZAC legend and mythology based on the personal diaries and memoirs of those who were there.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Robin Wood's CORES Recycled
Initially, they were the waste product of wooden bowls turned in an ancient technique by Robin Wood of the United Kingdom, an expert pole-lathe turner and author. Known for his historical and functional objects made on a foot-powered lathe, Wood keeps the tradition of pole turning alive. The leg-powered process Wood uses results in thousands of solid, round chunks – Cores – that get broken out of the center of the bowl at the last moment. Wood donated 100 Cores, which ranged in size from 2 x 2” to 3 x 4” to The Center for Art in Wood in Philadelphia. The Center sent Cores to two-score artists who agreed to the challenge of reworking them into new pieces of art. These works, shown here in more than 240 color photos, formed the exhibition – Robin Wood’s CORES Recycled – by The Center for Art in Wood.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd When the Spirit Speaks: Self-Taught Art of the South
This book introduces the reader to 32 self-taught artists in the Southeastern United States. Some have already come to the attention of collectors and scholars. Many others have been unrecognized outside of their immediate neighborhoods. What they all have in common is an unquenchable desire to make art. Often defying the expectations of family and friends, they have pursued this inspiration. In many cases, these artists began to create in response to a personal crisis. Others harbored an interest in art for many years but only had the time to create following retirement. Most were initially unaware of the academic art world, either because they were unable to afford an art education or because their families considered such an aspiration impractical. These stories of perseverance, struggle and triumph illustrate the strength of the creative impulse, which is a part of us all.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Hunting Tito: A History of Nachtschlachtgruppe 7 in World War II
For the first time, the history of one of the most significant and longest-lasting Luftwaffe combat units is presented. Operating against Tito and his partisans in Yugoslavia, Nachtschlachtgruppe 7, and its predecessor units Störkampfstaffel Kroatien and Südost, fought an extraordinary war--one that was different from any other Nachtschlachtgruppe in existence on either the eastern or western fronts. The history of Nachtschlachtgruppe 7 is unbreakably cross-linked with its "sister" unit Nahaufklärungsstaffel Kroatien, who eventually became its 2.Staffel in Autumn 1943. Despite their obsolete equipment--flying the Hs 126, Do 17 and He 46--they fought courageously against Tito's forces until the end of the war.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Brushes with War: Paintings and Drawings by the Troops of World War I: The WWHAM Collection of Original Art
Brushes With War is a unique history of World War I in broad brush strokes. Over 230 original paintings, drawings, sculpture, and trench art by the combatants of World War I cover all aspects of the war and most major battles from Mons (1914) to the Meuse-Argonne (1918). The artists were American, Austrian, Australian, Belgian, British, Canadian, French, German, and Russian soldiers. These were not professional artists, but amateurs depicting their own daily struggles as they saw them. Just as snapshot photos are often more realistic than posed professional portraits, these works of art are more genuine impressions of the war than the official art and illustrations of the time.
