During World War I he was an accredited war correspondent—writing a series of dispatches from Europe, he followed the American Doughboys through France, into Germany, and back home. Biographical and literary introductions and exhaustive notes provide additional information about the people, places, and events that made up his writing. A vital bridge from his earlier regional writing to his later Broadway works, these stories of civilians thrust into military uniforms provide a rare behind-the-scenes look at World War I and the formation of Runyonesque style itself.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd USS New Jersey (BB-62): From World War II, Korea, and Vietnam to Museum Ship
Preserved today as a museum in its namesake state, the battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62) saw combat during WWII and the Korean War and was the only battleship of any nation to see service during the Vietnam War. Following service in Vietnam, New Jersey was again retired to the reserve fleet; there it languished from 1969 to 1982, when the Reagan administration reactivated and modernized the New Jersey and its three Iowa-class sisters—Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin—and returned the massive ships to service. New Jersey was again decommissioned and returned to the reserve fleet in 1991. In a move that remains controversial even now, in 1999 the New Jersey was declared surplus by the Navy. The custody of the ship was then transferred to the Home Port Alliance organization in Camden, New Jersey, which currently maintains the battleship as a memorial and museum. This book, through more than 225 photos, documents the battleship from construction, through combat during each of its wars, to its preservation today. Part of the Legends of Warfare series.

Photographed mostly at night, scenes range from Rockefeller Center's ice rink and a Jewish Festival of Lights ceremony, to a puppet procession and elegantly decorated homes, offering a new, intimate, and heartwarming sense of the city. The book also contains a foreword by New York Times reporter James Barron, quotes from notable New Yorkers, and a map of the image locations. 'Tis the Season New York is a beautiful keepsake of the Big Apple, burnished and bedazzled during the most festive time of the year.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Good Egg and Bad Apple
Not all the foods in the refrigerator get along like peas in a pod. The vegetables are steamed, and Bad Apple and Second Banana are the problem. Good Egg suggests his friends try different responses to these two bullies. They try hiding, then standing their ground. At first, Good Egg's tactics don’t bear fruit. Only by using his noodle does Good Egg avoid getting scrambled and save his friends' bacon. In this story told on two levels, young readers will be entertained by the hijinks of the anthropomorphic food characters and will appreciate the allegory about not letting one bad apple spoil the bunch. Adult readers are served plenty of food for thought with hilarious gastronomical idioms and puns. An author's note explaining all the wordplay adds English language educational opportunities.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Did Dinosaurs Have Dentists?
What if a brachiosaurus needed braces? If a tyrannosaurus used toothpaste, would it squash the tube? A young child on the way to a dental checkup wonders if dinosaurs ever had cavities and if they had to brush their teeth, floss, get braces, and use fluoride or mouthwash. This whimsical picture book includes eleven common terms related to dental and oral health, along with a glossary of name pronunciations and fun, scientific facts about each of the eleven dinosaurs mentioned in the story. It takes an imaginative, humorous look at dinosaurs' dental health and eases children's fears about going to the dentist, while cleverly encouraging them to take care of their own teeth.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Brandywine Valley: A Keepsake
The 82 photographs in this book artfully capture the sights and scenes on a journey through picturesque Brandywine valley and adjacent areas, arguably one of the more historic and desirable places to visit and live in the country. They begin at the headwaters of famed Brandywine Creek among Amish farms in the Welsh Mountains of Chester County, Pennsylvania, and roughly follow its valley through farmland and woods; over green rolling hills; past mills, forges, and battlefields; and by houses and farms, into Chadds Ford and the outskirts of Wilmington, Delaware.
