La necropoli romana di Melano (Canton Ticino – Svizzera), scavata nel 1957 e nel 1979, costituisce a tutt’oggi una delle poche di quest’epoca scoperte nel Sottoceneri dove i rinvenimenti sono invece perlopiù sepolture isolate o riunite in piccoli gruppi. È costituita da 26 tombe fra cremazioni e inumazioni e si distingue per la loro varietà a livello tipologico e per i materiali impiegati nella loro costruzione. Fra le sepolture a cremazione, le più numerose, vi sono quelle più semplici, a vano singolo, fino a quelle a doppia camera e a loculo cinerario multiplo. Le tombe a inumazione, generalmente pertinenti a bambini o adolescenti, hanno restituito indizi riguardo all’uso di deporre il corpo in cassa lignea o su un lettino o barella. Nei corredi funerari sono presenti tutte le principali classi materiali d’epoca romana tipiche della regione unitamente a reperti che recano l’impronta di un centro sviluppatosi lungo le rive del lago Ceresio e dedito a particolari attività ad esso collegate, come la pesca. La stratigrafia verticale della necropoli e gli oggetti di corredo ne indicano un uso continuato dal I al III sec. d.C.

A characteristic shared by the Roman and Byzantine illustrated calendars is that they represent the twelve months of the year, referable to an iconographic repertoire which is divided into three themes: the astrological-astronomical, the festive-ritual and the rural-seasonal. With regard to the first type, the months are depicted through images of the signs of the zodiac, often associated with images of the guardian deities of the months; the second category includes depictions of the months that refer to some important religious festivals; finally, the third theme includes images of the months that allude to the most important work activities performed in the countryside. The figurative calendars, which in most cases are made on mosaics, are characterized by a wide distribution in terms of time, concentrated between the 3rd and 6th century, and geography, with the areas of greatest attestation consisting of Italy, Africa Proconsularis, Greece and Arabia. With regard to the architectural context, the calendars from the West are prevalently documented in the domus, while those from the East are particularly attested in ecclesiastical buildings. The aim of research presented in this volume is the in-depth study of the connections between the meaning of the iconography of the Roman and Byzantine illustrated calendars and their historical and cultural context. Leur attention s'etait surtout fixee sur les objets funeraires, comme les masques funeraires, ou, au sens plus large, sur l'art. Le but de cette exposition est tout autre. Il s'agit de fournir une idee concernant la vie dans l'Egypte romaine, telle qu'elle est decrite par les papyrus et les ostraca, par les urbanisations et les temples. Comment vivent les Egyptiens ? Comment gagnent-ils leur vie et quelles taxes doivent-ils payer ? Comment s'habillent-ils et comment decorent-ils leur maison ? Quelle influence exercent les cultures grecque et romaine sur la culture traditionnelle egyptienne ? Comment predit-on l'avenir et quel role jouent les temples ? Telles sont les questions que nous avions en tete en realisant cette exposition et en ecrivant ce catalogue. Ce catalogue comprend deux parties. La premiere donne un apercu de l'histoire, l'administration, l'economie, la vie quotidienne et la religion de l'Egypte romaine. La seconde partie consiste en un catalogue, avec un commentaire extensif des objets exposes, oA' les memes themes sont traites dans un ordre quelque peu different. Der Antikommunismus in der Bonner Republik war bis Anfang der 1960er Jahre eine wichtige Quelle der Identitätsstiftung. Er zielte auf die innere Konsolidierung der noch ungefestigten westdeutschen Demokratie und wirkte sich auf den Umgang der damaligen Gesellschaft mit dem nationalsozialistischen Erbe aus. Das damit einhergehende Bekenntnis zum Antitotalitarismus war zugleich Teil der neuen Staatsräson, mit der die junge Bundesrepublik ihre Zugehörigkeit zur westlichen Wertegemeinschaft demonstrierte und auf östliche Infiltrationsversuche reagierte. Der Aufsatzband setzt sich differenziert mit den verschiedenen staatlichen und gesellschaftlichen Formen des Antikommunismus auseinander. Er reflektiert diesen in gesamtdeutscher Perspektive und beleuchtet somit ein bislang wenig bekanntes Kapitel deutscher Nachkriegsgeschichte.
