Abrams Saint Ivy: Kind at All Costs
Now in paperback, a thoughtful middle-grade novel about caring for others and for yourself––and not being afraid to ask for what you need Thirteen-year-old Ivy Campbell has always been a good kid: she supports her soccer-star brother, bakes with her nana, and puts her friends’ needs before her own. So of course, Ivy is 100% supportive when her mom decides to be a surrogate for her best friend. But when Ivy finds out the surrogacy treatment worked and her mom is pregnant—and has been for weeks—she’s shocked that she’s jealous and worried about what others will think. But most of all, she’s ashamed that she isn’t reacting to this news in the right way. The Ivy way. Ivy is determined to prove to herself that she’s just as unselfish as she’s always believed, and she gets the chance to do that when she receives an anonymous email from someone who needs her help. But the more Ivy dives into helping this anonymous person, the further she gets away from the people she loves—and from the person who she wants to be.

Oxford University Press Another Kind of Normal: Ethical Life II
Every age needs to examine and propose its ways of living ethically. Another Kind of Normal: Ethical Life II constructs a mode of such living according to the Christian tradition, based upon an interpretation of Christ's coming and the relationship of that incarnation to God as the Creator of all things. In the second of four volumes, Graham Ward explores an Augustinian vision of consonance between divine rhythm and the rhythmic orders of creation. On the basis of what Augustine calls the 'interval', it proposes Christ is encountered as riddle, scandal, and paradox. It provides an account of creation as a Trinitarian event that calls for a rethinking of what are the key teachings in Christianity with respect to an understanding of creation as a divine benediction and a theatre for transformation and healing. Ward argues through Scriptural exegesis, for the omnidirectionality of time as graced, rejecting a conception of linear temporality and theologies indebted to that conception. Throughout, participation in God, through our hiddenness in Christ develops an account of the complex relationship between divine and human creativity, appealing to music, painting, poetry, drama, film, architecture, and novels.

Nick Hern Books Love in Idleness/Less Than Kind
Love in Idleness is the third in Terence Rattigan's unofficial trilogy of war plays (after Flare Path and While the Sun Shines). It is published here alongside an earlier version of the play, Less Than Kind, which was never staged during Rattigan's lifetime. Michael, eighteen, returns to wartime London from schooling in Canada, brimming with youthful left-wing convictions. Reunited with his mother, he is alarmed as he begins to realise that she is the mistress of a leading member of the war cabinet. Sparks fly between the idealistic younger man and the pragmatic politician, while the mother is torn between them... Love in Idleness was first staged at the Lyric Theatre, London, in December 1944, in a version rewritten by Rattigan at the request of the production's stars, Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. The earlier version of the play, Less Than Kind, was never staged and remained unpublished until 2011, the centenary of Rattigan's birth. That version was premiered at Jermyn Street Theatre, London, in January 2011. This volume presents both plays in full so that readers may judge for themselves which is the better. This edition includes an authoritative introduction by Dan Rebellato, a biographical sketch and chronology.

University of Texas Press LBJ and Vietnam: A Different Kind of War
Decades later, the Vietnam War remains a divisive memory for American society. Partisans on all sides still debate why the war was fought, how it could have been better fought, and whether it could have been won at all.In this major study, a noted expert on the war brings a needed objectivity to these debates by examining dispassionately how and why President Lyndon Johnson and his administration conducted the war as they did. Drawing on a wealth of newly released documents from the LBJ Library, including the Tom Johnson notes from the influential Tuesday Lunch Group, George Herring discusses the concept of limited war and how it affected President Johnson's decision making, Johnson's relations with his military commanders, the administration's pacification program of 1965-1967, the management of public opinion, and the "fighting while negotiating" strategy pursued after the Tet Offensive in 1968.The author's in-depth analysis exposes numerous flaws in Johnson's management of the war. In Herring's view, the Johnson administration lacked any overall strategy for conducting the war. No change in approach was ever discussed, despite popular and even administration dissatisfaction with the progress of the war, and no oversight committee coordinated the activities of the military services and various governmental agencies, which were left to follow their own, often conflicting, agendas.
