Black Dog Press Carolee Schneemann: Unforgivable
Carolee Schneemann is one of the most important artists of the postwar period. Her work in a range of media-painting, film, video, dance and performance, constructions and installations, the written word, and assemblage-presents an unparalleled catalogue of radical aesthetic experimentation. Meat Joy, 1964, Fuses, 1964-66, Up To and Including Her Limits, 1973-1976, and Interior Scroll, 1975, are now considered canonical projects, required entries in any meaningful account of contemporary art, belying their once notoriety as feminist challenges of the very concept of the art historical canon.Throughout the last fifty years, Schneemann has participated in the most significant formulations of the avant-garde, having made crucial contributions in Fluxus, happenings, expanded cinema, and performance cultures, while complicating generic definitions that might cohere to her work. Schneemann has been the subject of numerous exhibitions and publications throughout her career, and her work is in the collections of Tate Modern, Commune di Milano, Centre Georges Pompidou, Muzeum Wspoczesne Wroclaw, Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art.Carolee Schneemann: Unforgivable is the most thorough visual overview of Schneemann's work to date. Organized by five interrelated categories-Interviews and Correspondence, Painting, Cinema, Sites, and Technological Processes-this volume brings together previously published essays and interviews by authorities on the artist's work. The texts, many scarce or out of print, examine the significance of Schneemann's work in its historical context, and its vital urgency for our present.Contributors: Stephane Aquin, Emily Caigan, R Bruce Elder, Ron Hanson, Juan Carlos Kase, Brett Kashmere, Anette Kubitza, Erica Levin, Scott MacDonald, Thomas McEvilley, Ara Osterweil, Melissa Ragona, Maura Reilly, Kristine Stiles and Kenneth White.

HarperCollins Publishers A Christmas Carol: GCSE 9-1 set text student edition (Collins Classroom Classics)
Exam board: AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, WJECLevel & Subject: GCSE English LiteratureFirst teaching: September 2015Next exam: June 2024 This edition of A Christmas Carol is perfect for GCSE-level students: it comes complete with the novel, plus an introduction providing context, and a glossary explaining key terms. ‘If I could work my will,’ said Scrooge, indignantly, ‘every idiot who goes about with “Merry Christmas” on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.’ Miser and misanthropist Ebenezer Scrooge hates the festive season. Can the visitations of his dead business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas past, present and yet to come shake him from his habits, to show him the true value of Christmas? Dickens’s 1843 story was written in response to the plight of the poor, the hungry, the exploited and the uneducated in Victorian society, suggesting that the true test of a society is the way it treats its children.

Pennsylvania State University Press Celebrate Her for the Fruit of Her Hands: Essays in Honor of Carol L. Meyers
Carol Meyers is renowned for her expertise in many fields: the use of social-science methodologies to understand the Bible and the world of Iron Age Israel; the archaeology of ancient Israel, especially important sites of the Second Temple period; and the study of women in the Bible and in ancient Israel. In this volume, some of Meyers’s foremost scholarly peers honor her by offering essays that build on her work and depend on her expertise. For example, Norman K. Gottwald uses a social-scientific analysis to continue his groundbreaking work on the structure of the early Israelite confederacy; Eric Meyers discusses how certain Second Temple artifacts, such as ossuaries and bathing installations, might be used as markers of Jewish ethnicity; and Ross S. Kraemer, in conjunction with Jennifer Eyl, takes on the issue of how women are represented (or not) in Bible translators’ renderings of certain ambiguously gendered terms.Joining this community of Carol Meyers’s peers are some of her most noted students, who also have contributed essays that speak to Meyers’s many areas of interest and expertise and reflect what they have learned from her about, especially, the study of women in the Bible and in ancient Israel, and the application of social-scientific approaches to biblical studies. Moreover, as Meyers’s work spans the millennium-long history of the Iron Age and the Second Temple period, so do the essays of Meyers’s students, with offerings that consider some of the earliest texts in the Bible (Judges 5), as well as texts that come from the Second Temple archive of scrolls discovered at Qumran. The result is a collection of essays that are as richly multifaceted as is the work of the extraordinary scholar whose career they honor.

Seagull Books London Ltd Enacting Pleasure: Artists and Scholars Respond to Carol Gilligan's New Map of Love
In her book "In a Different Voice", psychologist Carol Gilligan proffered the controversial idea that a psychology of male development could not suffice as a psychology of all human development, both male and female. Since the publication of that revolutionary book and her later work "The Birth of Pleasure: A New Map of Love", which argued that the pleasure of love is a common human denominator often repressed in a hierarchical culture, Gilligan has been recognized by some scholars as a pioneer of feminist thought and vilified by others as an essentialist and a proponent of gender difference. In "Enacting Pleasure", a distinguished group of artists and scholars explores the personal and political implications of Gilligan's account of pleasure and the human psyche. The contributors to this volume come to Gilligan's work with a wide range of perspectives - from those who view her ideas as Eurocentric, heterocentric, Freudian, or anti-Freudian to others who see it as among the most advanced theories in neuroscience and human biology, as well as a blueprint for progressive politics. As a whole, this diverse collection stands as a meditation on the role that love plays in psychology, art, and politics.

Classical Comics Classical Comics Teaching Resource Pack: A Christmas Carol: Making the Classics Accessible for Teachers and Students
Designed for the classroom, this resource book contains activities and exercises to help the teaching of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. Although it was designed to be used alongside the Classical Comics graphic novels, this teaching guide uses the novel as a springboard for learning and it can be used with any version of the book. The exercises have been approached from a cross-curriculum perspective so that they cover not only literature and literacy, but also history, technology, drama, reading, speaking, writing and art. The book is divided into such categories as Charles Dickens: His Place in English, Understanding the Novel, Character, Language, and Creative Writing. Students get to design their own Christmas card, write a modern version of the story, write a book review, color pages, solve anagrams, and more while they learn. The age range is 10 to 17 (Grade 5 and up), but of course within that span exists a broad spectrum of skill levels. Therefore, this study guide includes activities for all, providing many opportunities for differentiated teaching and for the tailoring of lessons to meet individual needs. Examples of some of the activities include: Background, Character, Language, Understanding, Drama/Art. A CD is included that contains the pages in PDF format so that they can be used on any whiteboard or local intranet system.
