Launched at the start of 2022, MadC’s 'Color Rhythms' is a collection of 1,000 unique NFTs innovatively produced by a generative algorithm, machine learning and hand curation that allowed the hand of the artist to be captured and replicated digitally, from the instinctual choice of color and chance splashes of paint to the sharp pull of a paintbrush on canvas. The variations between each artwork image have been quantified and labelled by a number of rarities such as form, density, color, number of colors and monochrome. Each of these categories is then assigned different parameters for each work to make up the expressive forms and evocative color palettes that characterize this collection. The complete collection of 1,000 works will be published by HENI in a substantial, compact, small-format hardback book. Complete with a visual index, the book is designed in close collaboration and with an introduction by the artist herself and printed in a limited run of 1,000 copies, each numbered and signed.

In Lobeda, the artist’s book from 2010, Sabine Moritz remembers her childhood spent in a prefab housing estate near Jena, Germany, in 149 pencil drawings. The Neulobeda district is a densely populated area characterised by high-rise concrete buildings and modernist urban planning. This urban landscape was to have a profound effect on the young Moritz, which would later manifest itself in her work. While studying at the Offenbach University of Art and Design, Moritz began drawing her memories of Lobeda. The first body of her drawings from the early 1990s is published here. Moritz sketches the bus stations, tramways and high-rise blocks of Lobeda. Details are included of windows, balconies and entranceways overlooking roads and pavements meandering between them. Inside, communal stairwells with winding banisters lead to private living spaces furnished with chairs, beds, table lamps and coat pegs that are etched in the artist’s memory.

Memory as a dynamic process has been the underlying theme of Sabine Moritz s drawings and paintings since the early 1990s. In her work the Cologne-based artist has captured remembered images from her childhood in the GDR; drawn flower compositions; and in recent years has engaged with the motif of war. This publication presents Moritz s latest work: a collection of drawings and paintings of helicopters created between 2002 and 2013. The Helicopter series has arisen from Moritz s interest in the shift in their symbolic meaning. November presents German artist Gerhard Richter s series of the same name comprised of 54 ink drawings so called due to their creation throughout the month of November in 2008. Richter assumed this method after accidentally dripping ink on to a sheet of highly absorbent paper and realising that two related images formed on the front and back. He then began to manipulate the ink in various ways changing its consistency and applying lacquer or pencil to add further detail. Reworking this method on 27 sheets of paper, he was able to create 54 images in total, presented here as facsimiles, so that both sides of each piece of paper can be viewed at the same time. In JENA Düsseldorf, first published in 2011, we follow Sabine Moritz and her artistic development, which began in 1989 at Offenbach University of Art and Design and continued in 1991 at the fine arts academy Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Following the publication of Lobeda in 2010, a collection of homogenous early drawings, the pictures featured in JENA Düsseldorf have greater diversity in terms of content and form reflecting Moritz steady progression as an artist. Moritz brings scenes to life with vibrant colours and experimental brushstrokes creating a range of textures and atmospheres in a variety of medium including oil, acrylic, charcoal and colour pencil. The repertoire of architectural motifs is expanded to include places of remembrance in the GDR, sculptures in public spaces and the typology of ‘empty places’. Some of the motifs from Lobeda reappear and are altered, drawing attention to the dynamic aspect of the process of recollection. The book also features a conversation with Hans Ulrich Obrist in which Moritz talks about her personal life, her memories and makes reference to specific works. The modest and compact book, packed with over 200 colour illustrations, shows by way of example her search for an artistic position on her route from Jena to Düsseldorf.

This fascinating volume showcases the work of British artist, poet and performer Liz Finch and presents a series of 25 sculptures created between 1975 and 2016. In July 2016, Mary McCartney travelled to Paris for a special photo shoot. Over two days, McCartney would stay with her subject Phyllis Wang at her St Germain apartment and photograph her in the nude. A mixture of black and white and colour, the delicate photographs collected here showcase the intimacy and trust required from both subject and photographer. Over the course of their time together, we see the model increasingly relax in front of the camera as she assumes various poses, and an unspoken bond between the two gradually develops. 'The Currency' is a collection of 10,000 NFTs which correspond with 10,000 original artworks by Damien Hirst. Art collectors were given the choice to either keep the NFT or exchange it for the physical artwork. At the close of the exchange period in July 2022, 5,149 collectors decided to keep the physical artworks, and 4,851 the NFT. The physical artworks linked to the retained NFTs and reproductions of the destroyed NFTs were displayed in Perspex screens suspended in the gallery space. The physical artworks were then publicly burned in furnaces at the exhibition. Published in association with Newport Street Gallery with an exclusive release on the occasion of the Hirst’s exhibition to conclude the series, The Currency book features 332 of the 10,000 artworks as well as installation shots of the final exhibition, prefaced by an interview between Hirst and British actor, writer and broadcaster Stephen Fry.

Following her 2010 publication dedicated to roses, Cologne-based artist Sabine Moritz here turns her attention to lilies, which she first began depicting in the mid 1990s. Working on paper to produce fifty-nine charcoal, pastel and oil pastel drawings, similiarly she often approaches works as studies or exercises in observation and representation. There is a layer of the public architecture that has become so familiar that we barely notice it. Street furniture has the capacity to define a city, to locate it and to anchor us within it. Benches, bollards, streetlights, signs, barriers, post boxes, phone booths – they are the physical manifestation of public infrastructure, a network of goods between architecture and the body. In this book, Edwin Heathcote, architecture and design critic of the Financial Times, looks at the cultural impact of street furniture using photography as a measure of how these things have become indispensable components of the cityscape. Generally known for his installation work encompassing sculpture, video and soundscapes, Fireflies focuses wholly on Parreno's lesser-known drawings. The drawings collected here showcase a delicate, personal touch, as they were created while Parreno was ill with cancer and were sent to his friends. In Parreno's drawings the fireflies' light is often created by an absence of darkness or pigment. This striking contrast perfectly encapsulates the bioluminescent glow emanating from the insect's abdomen. The book is edited by Hans Ulrich Obrist, artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries.
