Blum & Poe Lauren Quin: My Hellmouth
"Quin’s paintings roil with the frenetic energy of many lines in motion, each moving with a different weight and at a different speed; the finished compositions hum with the radiant electricity of a neon sign" –Cultured The paintings of Los Angeles– and San Francisco–based artist Lauren Quin (born 1992) have mesmerized audiences with their electric colors and pulsating lines. Her compositions contain an intricate language of overlapping shapes (most recently, Légeresque tubes), engendering a dizzying multitude of compositional center points. Each painting features motifs—spider, needle, sun—which she then transfers onto the canvas through a monoprint technique. This is the first comprehensive monograph on Quin, accompanying her solo show at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Featuring a foreword by Nerman director JoAnne Northrup, essays by art historian Fanny Singer and artist and writer Juliana Halpert, and an interview with the artist by curator Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer, My Hellmouth also provides insight into Quin's artistic process.

Blum & Poe Alexander Tovborg: Sacrificial Love Beyond Devotion
Recent works from the Danish artist transmuting religious archetypes into imaginative new scenarios This monograph highlights the recent work of Copenhagen-based artist Alexander Tovborg (born 1983). Documenting Tovborg’s work across painting, drawing and sculpture from the last two years, this publication illuminates the artist’s deep knowledge of religious symbolism and archetypes—concepts that inform his multidisciplinary art, personal life and ideology. His research into the origins and contemporary iterations of symbology, mysticism and religious archetypes has yielded varied bodies of work that span subjects such as the hallucinogenic and erotic first meeting of Adam and Eve; the lost adolescence of Jesus Christ; and a wedding procession of paintings representing the marriage of heaven and hell, among others. Through newly commissioned texts, including a critical essay, poem, a short story and an interview with the artist, this volume introduces readers to Tovborg’s rigorously researched, imaginative art.

Distributed Art Publishers Yoshitomo Nara
Three decades of the beloved Japanese artist’s paintings, drawings, sculptures and more Yoshitomo Nara is among the most beloved Japanese artists of his generation. His widely recognizable portraits of menacing figures reflect the artist’s raw encounters with his inner self. Nara’s oeuvre takes inspiration from a wide range of resources—memories of his childhood, music, literature, studying and living in Germany (1988–2000), exploring his roots in Japan, Sakhalin and Asia, and modern art from Europe and Japan. Spanning 35 years (1985 to 2020), this book—which accompanies the major career retrospective organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art—presents the full range of Nara’s work. It also examines the artist’s work through the lens of his longtime passion—music—and features “liner notes” written by the artist about various albums in his personal collection of 1960s and 70s folk and rock albums, published in English for the first time. The book features paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramic figures, an installation that re-creates his drawing studio, and never-before-exhibited idea sketches that reflect the artist’s empathic eye, shining a light on Nara’s conceptual process. Readers will see the evolution of a dynamic artist who has become more contemplative with age. Yoshitomo Nara was born in 1959 in Aomori, Japan, and graduated with a master's degree from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music and later studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. In the fall of 2010, the Asia Society in New York presented the first major New York exhibition of his work. He is represented by Pace Gallery and Blum & Poe.
