Forma Edizioni Barcelona: On the Road Architectural Guides
When we think of Barcelona, the eclectic art of Antoni Gaudi immediately springs to mind. It is present in every corner of the city. Or we think of the Olympic Ring with the tower designed by Santiago Calatrava; but these are only two aspects of the exquisite beauty of the Catalan capital which has been able to blend old and new in a unique and unpredictable way. The traditional Gothic architecture has a discreet historical flavour, while the buildings that have appeared in the past 10 years reflect modern art trends like Cubism, Neo-plasticism, and Futurism. Named the European capital of innovation in 2014, the city boasts extremely distinctive urban planning because of the unusual bevelled corners on city blocks that provide more open street intersections, with extra space for outdoor cafes and seating, that give the city its particularly sociable community atmosphere.

Forma Edizioni Gio Ponti: Inedito/Rediscovered: Notre Dame de Sion, Roma
Between 1960 and 1965 Gio Ponti worked on the headquarters of the religious congregation Notre Dame de Sion, located on the Janiculum Hill in Rome. Forma Edizioni GONG: Eliseo Mattiacci
Eliseo Mattiacci (Cagli, 1940) is considered a leading figure in modern and contemporary Italian art. He is a widely exhibited sculptor known as an early proponent of Arte Povera and a pioneer of the late-Sixties avant-garde. His work revolves around ideas of the spatial and conceptual relationships between art and nature, and between man and the environment. Mattiacci's cosmological iconographies embody the ideas that have occupied him throughout his career: how the cosmos, the planets, and magnetic fields affect the material world. This important retrospective exhibition of twenty sculptures and nearly 80 drawings has been installed both inside and in the gardens of the recently renovated Forte di Belvedere in Florence. The catalogue features numerous critical essays and extensive on-site photographs of the installation.

Forma Edizioni Afro
Afro Libio Basaldella (Udine, 1912-Zurich, 1976) was perhaps the most renowned member of the Friuli Avant-garde Movement, which influenced his approach towards a more Expressionist sense of painting that had always been based on traditional Venetian Colourism. In the 1940s, Afro joined the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti, and following a visit to the United States, he joined the Gruppo degli Otto, with whom he exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1952. Although in certain aspects his style seemed similar to American Action Painting, his harmonious tonal modulation and later research into abstract shapes and forms produced intellectually sophisticated results. This is the catalogue of the first French retrospective of the artist, held at the Tornabuoni Art Gallery in Paris, showing works ranging from the 1930s to the 1970.

Forma Edizioni Milan
In recent years, Milan has become a metropolis involved in transformations that are well worthy of interest for the architectural and urbanistic experiments that have been carried out. The complex dialectics between innovation and respect for the existing urban form is the distinctive characteristic of the city: recovery of downgraded neighbourhoods, redevelopment of decommissioned industrial zones, technological experimentation, and vertical development are the aspects that mark Milan as a strongly contemporary city. This guide is being launched in answer to a moment of great focus on Milan. As it guides the reader through the wide range of contemporary architectural projects, it emphasises the unique nature of its complex character. The transformations are still underway and for this reason, it is difficult to foresee how a city of such size will manage to redefine its personal equilibrium: but this too is part of the contemporary nature of Milan.

Forma Edizioni Marco Tamburro. Gemelli
Published on the occasion of the monographic exhibition at the Corner of the MAXXI, this catalogue is illustrated with the earlier paintings and never-before-seen large works created especially for the museum, a dialogue between nine sets of twins and one work in which it is possible to recognise an expressive direction filtered through the lens of abstraction. In addition to the essay by the curator, the volume includes an interview with the artist, a critical text by Aurelio Picca, and a bio-bibliography. In short, the volume provides a complete portrait of Marco Tamburro: from the references to classical cinema, to the theatre and to contemporary photography, to his personal history and paintings, which combine aspects of his own life with imaginary events. His main source of inspiration is the city of Rome, consumed and crisscrossed by an infinity of trajectories, overlaid by buildings and skyscrapers. Text in English and Italian.

Forma Edizioni Vasco Bendini. Ombre prime
Catalogue of the exhibition dedicated by La Galleria Nazionale di Roma to Vasco Bendini on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth, which opened in March 2022. The volume accompanies the discovery of the career of one of the major artists of the second half of the Italian 20th century, from his early training with Giorgio Morandi, up to the great Roman solo exhibitions and the Biennales of his maturity. The work of Vasco Bendini, dear to critics such as Francesco Arcangeli and Maurizio Calvesi, opens in the immediate postwar period, following an informal language in search of the volto as a universal archetype, to then focus on gesture and matter, under the influence of, among others, Jean Fautrier. The 1960s are characterised by the inclusion in the paintings of heterogeneous objects and materials, in an approach to Arte Povera and then, with actions and installations, to the Neodada way of doing things. The central objective for Bendini remains in fact the involvement of the viewer, in a fruitful dialogue necessary for the development of his poetics. A large selection of archival photos, along with essays and alleri productions of the works, is flanked by a critical anthology and unpublished writings by the Master. Text in English and Italian.

Forma Edizioni Paris On the Road Architecture Guides
The Paris guide is focused on describing the complexity of this European metropolis through its 20th and 21st century architecture.Following Haussmann's transformations, Paris, the most densely constructed city in Europe, expanded thanks to a flexibility based on a matrix able to absorb and integrate the directional courses of the architecture of the period. However, the complexity of the urban transformations and the changes in the Parisian architectural panorama did not erase the solid identity of the city's urban image. This book guides the reader through decades of Parisian architectural history beginning with the great names of the Modernist movement, Loos, Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer. The second half of the 20th century is famous for the cultural vitality of the city reflected in the innovative architecture of the Centre George Pompidou designed by Piano and Rogers. The Pompidou Centre is both the symbol and result of the 1968 student revolution. The 1980s and 90s were

Forma Edizioni Pino Manos
This is the catalogue of the exhibition held at the Opera Gallery in Paris, dedicated to the Sardinian artist Pino Manos. Manos is renowned for founding the movement called Rigorismo (Rigourism) in 2010, in the wake of Transpatialism and beyond, with the involvement of Enrico Castellani, Agostino Bonalumi, Giuseppe Amadio, Cesare Berlingeri, Alberto Loro, Pino Manos, Vanna Nicolotti, Turi Simeti, Paolo Scheggi, Paolo Bazzocchi, Umberto Mariani and Pino Pinelli, organised and curated by Flavio Lattuada at the Galleria Lattuada, following the spatial poetics of Lucio Fontana. Forma Edizioni Naples: On the Road Architectural Guides
The influence of Anjou and Aragon, and the traces left by Bourbon, Hapsburg and Napoleonic domination have made Naples a treasure-trove of different styles and periods, rich in original imperfections and extravagance that deserve to be discovered and enjoyed. This guide is aimed at illustrating the structure and unusual aspects of a city in constant artistic ferment, where architecture ranges from ancient aristocratic palaces to the modern futuristic skyscrapers of the business district, the Art Stations of the Naples Metro, the small Art Nouveau houses in the poorer areas in the historic centre; architecture that exists layer upon layer, spreading outwards to the city boundaries. The twenty-year period of Fascism was crucial for Neapolitan architecture: the city was the object of widespread land drainage and reclamation work, resulting in the conclusive isolation of the Angevin Keep, the creation of the new Corsea in the area of the new foundations for the San Giuseppe-Carita district, as well as a large number of building projects in the city centre. The 'On the Road' series offers readers a voyage of discovery showing how ancient historical buildings like those of Naples, can cohabit alongside some of the most innovative and contemporary architecture existing today.

Forma Edizioni Ali Banisadr. Beautiful Lies
Beautiful Lies documents Teheran-born, New York-based artist Ali Banisadr’s 2021 show in Florence in honour of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri. The “beautiful lies” beneath which truth is hidden is an expression used by Dante in describing his writing - and allegorical poetry in general - and it is perfectly suited to Banisadr’s work. His powerful brushwork and strong colours go below the surface of his personal reality, revealing violence and isolation, anguish and wonder, but also memories and imagination. For this show, which was split between two venues, he was commissioned to create an installation of site-specific paintings (also called Beautiful Lies). The text is by Sergio Risaliti, director of the Museo Novecento in Florence.

Forma Edizioni Maggie's Centres: On the Road
This guide traces the history of Maggie's cancer treatment centres and takes visitors to see how they have grown up in Britain and elsewhere to become a new type of institution; a paradigm for architecture. Founded by Maggie Keswick Jencks and Charles Jencks, both landscape designers and architects, each Maggie's Centre is a successful example of "a hybrid of four buildings: it's a non-hospital institute, it's a kind of non-home house, a non-confessional religious refuge and a non-museum art gallery. However, it presents traces of all four typologies, used in a new way" (C.J., 2018). In addition to the peculiarity of being a hybrid building, the success of the Maggie's Centre project seems to be crucial to the fact that, in order to carry out their work, the architects are provided, from the outset, with the Architectural Brief, where they find described not so much the technical and functional requirements, but rather the emotional and sensory states that the new building, intended for cancer patients and their relatives and friends, will have to guarantee. The buildings are and should all be of great visual impact due to their sophisticated architectural design, but at the same time be familiar with their domestic and welcoming spaces and should be able to encourage patients to support each other.

Forma Edizioni Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas: The Cloud: New Rome-Eur Convention Centre
This book narrates the complete detailed history of the New Rome Convention centre in Rome and its construction through numerous and evocative images of the work site showing the complexity of the construction stages and the special techniques that were necessary. There are photos of the completed building, by internationally renowned photographers and an essay by Joseph Giovannini, and is completed with very rich iconographic material composed of technical drawings on various scales, and sketches by the Massimiliano Fuksas, author of the work together with Doriana Fuksas. The NUVOLA (NEW CONVENTION CENTRE) is a work of outstanding artistic merit, featuring innovative logistics solutions, and a choice of technically advanced materials. The structure rises in the historic EUR quarter and covers a surface of 55,000 square metres. The project concept can be defined in three images: the Theca, the Nuvola, and the Lama of the hotel structure. The Theca [display case] is the enclosing structure in steel and double glass facades that encases the Nuvola [cloud], the true core of the project, enclosed inside the Display Case box underlining the contrast between the organisation of free space without rules, and a geometrically defined form. The Nuvola contains an auditorium with seating for 1850, cafés and snack bars, and support services for the auditorium. This highly flexible complex is able to house congresses, exhibitions, and events with a seating capacity of almost 9,000 people. The book has been published on various types of paper and differently sized sheets which are inserted within the pages. Studio Fuksas, directed by Massimiliano and Doriana, is one of the most famous international architectural firms in the world. Over the past 40 years, the firm has developed an innovative approach through a surprising variety of projects all over the world and and has been awarded numerous international prizes.

Forma Edizioni Istanbul On the Road Architecture Guides
Istanbul represents a vast field for experimentation and dialogue between the wonderful examples of historical and traditional Turkish architecture and the new demands of contemporary design. In the 21st century the city of Istanbul began a new urban transformation process, aimed at becoming an important hub for trade and finance. Today, the Turkish metropolis can be defined as a megacity with the construction of new financial centres, shopping malls, and infrastructures such as airports, bridges and tourist ports. The structural transformations in society have led to a shift in the urban morphology that, in turn, has generated not only social and cultural changes, but also an identity crisis in the city itself. Within this scenario, the guide not only offers a horizontal view of contemporary architecture, but also acts as a means for analysing new architectural directions and contemporary urban development in Istanbul. As well as the itineraries that feature selected buildings,

Forma Edizioni Air Albania Stadium
Air Albania Stadium details the process from design to construction of the new stadium in Tirana, symbol of the renewal of the living conditions of a community that, while honouring its past traditions and history, wants to declare its full participation in contemporary European culture. The exceptional quality of the project consists of the idea that the sports complex one of the most advanced on the continent and, for that reason, chosen by the UEFA as the location for the final match of the Conference League tournament in 2022 was conceived as an urban structure fully integrated with the life of the city and located in an area to which it, merely by virtue of its presence, has contributed to redevelop entirely. The stadium or, rather, the urban complex that contains it, is the symbol of a cultural rebirth that places at the centre of every human activity the community that engages with the sports arena on a continuous, and not merely occasional, basis,

This monograph, edited by noted Italian art critic Bruno Corà and published on the occasion of Art Basel 2018, presents the genesis, critical analysis, and exhibition history of the Combustioni Plastiche [Plastic Combustions] cycle by Alberto Burri. These works span a quarter of a century, from 1953 to 1979, and were created using industrial sheets of different kinds of plastic, with different melting points. They are visceral and technically innovative hybrids, part painting and part sculpture, ranging in size from a few centimetres to larger works installed in places of worship and stage designs for theatre performances. They illuminate Burri's longstanding exploration of the beauty that can be found in mass produced materials, and function as a lens through which we can reassess Burri's entire creative career. Historical photographs by Claudio Amendola and Ugo Mulas, newspaper articles, and in-depth essays offer a complete analysis of this extraordinary cycle of works.

Forma Edizioni The Design City: Milan Workshop City
Design in Milan is a physical and palpable presence that can be seen in all work places: in the designer's studios, or factories where the objects from their activity are rendered, or even in the moment where all of these elements come together at the Salone del Mobile. Milan has long been a platform for creating design, central to the world of design, graphics and architecture. A world that constantly reinvent itself to stay fresh and competitive. The book covers major past events and their connection to Milan while also exploring the current situation and offers thoughts for the future. It shines a spotlight on the stories of many generations of Italian and Foreign Designers who share having contributed to the Milan design system, which became well established on an international scale over the span of nearly a century (1940-2020). The designers were chosen based on their connections to and the two common threads are the places where their creative design process happened and the voices of the designers themselves. Archive material provided by theirs and foundations as well as interviews with each of the protagonists of contemporary Milanese design show a range of points of view on the relationship between the city, its cultural system, and the Salone. This is a historic event thanks to the presence of structures, companies, and artisans who over time have made Milan a centre for commerce, training and professional growth. The comparison of the individual designers, through their enunciation of methods, approaches, and secrets of the trade, also emphasizes the different ways of interpreting the profession. Anyone coming from other cities, Italian or foreign, finds in Milan the ideal place to express themselves, adopting the creative and working spirit, understanding the "mysteries" that surround this extraordinary environment, and becoming manufacturers of new ideas and creations.

Forma Edizioni Florence
Florence is aimed at showing how one of the Italian cities most strongly linked with its past, the quintessential symbol of the Renaissance period, conceals a myriad of innovative architecture. Florence is not a static city. It has often been guilty of long delays and a certain lack of courage in assimilating new approaches, but its way of introducing contemporary architecture into a consolidated context, is unique. Changes with great impact began in Florence at the end of the 19th century with the urban planning transformations designed by Giuseppe Poggi. The strongly defined limits of the historic centre became blurred with the demolition of the fortifications and the city was opened up to permit expansion. In the 1930s, the Rationalist design of the Santa Maria Novella Station introduced a new form of architectural expression into the historic centre and outskirts of the city. This is the building that begins the itinerary proposed in this guide; a chronological, but also a physical beginning: a starting point for visitors to begin their architectural excursion.

Forma Edizioni On Fire
“The high dignity of the fire arts derives from the fact that their works bear the most profoundly human mark, the mark of primitive love. (...) The forms created by fire are modelled, more than any other, as Paul Valéry rightly suggests ‘by dint of caresses’.” - Gaston Bachelard, The Psychoanalysis of Fire, 1937 On Fire is the title of an exhibition curated by Bruno Corà, organised by the Giorgio Cini Foundation in collaboration with Tornabuoni Art, from April to July 2022, dedicated to the most evocative of nature's primary elements: fire. From Burri's combustions to Klein's, Arman's and Kounellis's use of gas flame, as well as Calzolari's and Parmiggiani's use of flames and smoke in different ways, the artists have explored both the destructive and generative effects of fire, using different materials, as well as ash and light, creating an innovative form of expression. The exhibition includes works on international loan from the most prestigious public and private collections in Europe and North America, offering thus the opportunity to see some masterpieces that have never or rarely been seen before.

Due to Scheggi’s untimely death in 1971 at the age of 31, the project remained unfinished. These previously unpublished preparatory sketches, drawings, and notes, which were shown at the Museo Novecento in Florence, are examined in essays by Ilaria Bignotti and Bruno Corà and texts by Germana Agnetti and Cosima Scheggi, daughters of the two artists and directors of their respective archives. The concept of the project was to create a sacred place, a temple, to contain linguistic objects representing primary forms of community, subjectivity and power, linking these with the artistic and theoretical research the two artists were conducting at the time. Agnetti died 10 years after his friend and colleague. His research followed a new route but remained closely linked with that idea born in 1968, that “any work, any artistic object, any gesture is a critical reminder of reality and our existence”. (Germana Agnetti).

Forma Edizioni Arnaldo Pomodoro 1956-65
Tornabuoni art returns to the origins of sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro's work (1926, Morciano di Romagna), specifically to the years 1956-1965, a pivotal period of the artist's production. His creations, initially derived from the goldsmithing produced side by side with the brothers Gio and Giorgio Perfetti, evolves towards small concrete and lead reliefs, then in large mural panels engraved with illegible glyphs, inspired by Mesopotamian tablets' cuneiform writing, Egyptian papyruses and Paul Klee's graphic style. In 1960, Pomodoro was among the founders of the group Continuità, next to Novelli, Consagra, Tancredi, Dorazio and Fontana, preaching an 'aesthetic of continuity', defined as 'the absence, the incertitude of limit' and attached to the formal aspects of artworks. He thus produced his first Sfere, adopting gilded polished bronze as his preferred material of work, and of which the creation marks the definitive transition to monumental scale of his career. Today, Pomodoro's creations can be found in prestigious museum collections such as the Guggenheim in New York and the Vatican Museums. Moreover, his monumental artworks are exhibited in more than 40 public squares in major cities around the world. The artist lives and works in Milan, Italy. Text in English and Italian.

The first section describes the experiences shaping Natalini's education, including his studies and work at Superstudio and the 'Pistioia school'. The other chapters present his designs and completed projects, divided by geographic area and then in chronological order. The Italian, German and Dutch sketchbooks show the work he considers the best representations of his career, told through images, technical drawings and original sketches from his famed sketchbooks. Many excerpts from interviews with the Natalini are interspersed throughout, complementing and tying everything together.
