The Von Bock memoirs, which appear here for the first time, allow the reader to see the entire drama of the Second World War through the eyes of one of Germany's most important military commanders. After the attacks on Poland and Western Europe, campaigns he helped bring to a succesful conclusion, von Bock became Commander-in-Chief of Army Group Center which carried out the main drive on Moscow during Operation Barbarossa and brought the Red Army to the verge of collapse in the great battles of encirclement. Hitler relieved von Bock when the German offensive bogged down during the winter of 1941/1942. After he returned as Commander-in-Chief of Army Group South, von Bock was eventually placed in temporary retirement when he critized Hitler's division of forces against Stalingrad and the Caucasus-the road to castrophe began. Army commanders like Hoth, Guderian, Kluge and Paulus served under Generalfeldmarschall Fedor von Bock, while at his side stood his nephew Henning von Tresckow, who led the most active resistance movement against Hitler, and Carl-Hans von Hardenberg, a friend and advisor of Stauffenberg. Their efforts to win over von Bock failed, yet the Generalfeldmarschall tolerated the pronounced resistance sentiments among his staff, and even became privy to the attempted assissination of Hitler on July 20, 1944. This book allows us to reassess Fedor von Bock, whose complex personality is revealed by his diary entries, and by the biographical sketches by editor Klaus Gerbet.

The Schaubühne Berlin is one of the foremost German-language theatres and has a unique artistic profile. Between 2018 and 2022, renowned artists Christian Jankowski, John Bock, Olaf Nicolai, Katharina Sieverding, and Monica Bonvicini designed a series of posters for the theatre. The outcome: striking two-dimensional artworks that, when inserted into Berlin’s cityscape, created a kind of temporary urban exhibition. The array of artistic executions in the poster campaigns ranges from humorously grotesque scenes or fanciful tableaux featuring members of the ensemble to purely conceptual approaches devoid of any text or imagery, to posters that use round cut-outs to capitalise on their ever-changing impact in the urban space. This publication brings together for the first time all of the designs alongside accompanying texts and interviews. Eine bessere "zeitgemäßere" Führung, die die jüngeren Arbeitskräfte anspricht und mitnimmt, ist weder eine Frage komplizierter Führungstheorien noch eine Frage des Umbaus von Organigrammen bzw. der Einführung von Agilität. Beides geht nach Auffassung von Thomas Sajdak am Kern guter Führung vorbei, denn der strukturelle Umbau eines Unternehmens bringt allein noch keine Verbesserung der Führungsqualität oder -kultur. Und die Orientierung an umfassenden und zum Teil schwierigen Führungstheorien ist nicht praktikabel und verstellt zudem den Blick auf das Wesentliche. Das Buch von Thomas Sajdak verfolgt daher einen anderen Ansatz: Führung ist im Grunde nicht schwierig, sondern eine Frage einfacher "Basics" oder Grundwahrheiten, die jeder verstehen, sich aneignen und durch wiederholtes Training erlernen kann. Es geht zum Beispiel um menschliche und emotionale Anteilnahme, das Stellen der richtigen Fragen zur richtigen Zeit und das Bewusstsein der eigenen Wirkung auf andere. Ausgehend von den 3 Eckpfeilern - Einstellung, Technik, Wirkung - stellt das Buch eine größere Anzahl von "Hacks" bzw. "Basics" vor, erläutert ihre Hintergründe und ihre Wirkung, bringt praktische Beispiele und Übungen für die Anwendung. Jeder Hack ist einfach zu verstehen und anzuwenden, erfordert kein besonderes Wissen oder Können, sondern lediglich die Bereitschaft, zu üben und ihn konsequent zu nutzen.

How widespread was authorship among rulers in the premodern Islamic world? The writings of different types of rulers in different regions and periods are analyzed in this book, from the early centuries in the central lands of Islam to 19th century Sudan. The composition of poetry appears as the most fertile area for authorship among rulers. Prose writings show a wide variety, from astrology to bookmaking, from autobiography to creeds. Some of the rulers made claims to special knowledge, but in all cases authorship played a special role in the construction of the rulers' authority and legitimacy.
