Pitch Publishing Ltd Even the Defeats: How Sir Alex Ferguson Used Setbacks to Inspire Manchester United's Greatest Triumphs
Even the Defeats is the story of how painful moments in Sir Alex Ferguson's early reign inspired him to lead Manchester United to some of their greatest successes. A heavy 5-1 loss at Manchester City in Ferguson's early tenure led pundits and supporters to question the Scot's position, but by the season's end he was holding aloft his first trophy at the club -- the FA Cup. This trend continued when an end-of-season collapse handed Leeds United the league title in the spring of 1992, only to galvanise United to their first championship in 26 years the very next year. From struggles in Europe to winning the treble, from losing the title on goal difference to their city rivals to winning the Premier League in Ferguson's final season in charge - rising from the depths of despair to achieve glory, and using failure to fuel success, was arguably Sir Alex's greatest strength. John Silk brings you the inside story of what made Ferguson tick, with views from players, coaches and other members of staff from the great Scot's reign.

Liverpool University Press The Mystery of the Real: Letters of the Canadian Artist Alex Colville and Biographer Jeffrey Meyers
The work of Alex Colville, O.C. (1920-2013), one of the great modern realist painters, combines the Flemish detail of Andrew Wyeth, the eerie foreboding of George Tooker and the anguished confrontations of Lucian Freud. Behind the North Americans stands their common master, Edward Hopper. Colville's works are in many museums in Canada and Germany. He has affinities with Max Beckmann and appeals to the German "secondary virtues": cleanliness, punctuality, love of order. In a long life he resolutely opposed the fashionable currents of abstract and expressionistic art. In contrast to Jackson Pollock's wild action painting, Colville created paintings of contemplation and reflection. As Jeffrey Meyers writes: I spent several days with Colville on each of three visits from California to Wolfville. I received seventy letters from him between August 1998 and April 2010, and kept thirty-six of my letters to him. He sent me photographs and slides of his work and, in his eighties, discussed the progress and meaning of the paintings he completed during the last decade of his life. His handwritten letters, precisely explaining his thoughts and feelings, provide a rare and enlightening opportunity to compare my insights and interpretations with his own intentions and ideas. He also discussed his family, health, sexuality, politics, reading, travels, literary interests, our mutual friend Iris Murdoch, response to my writing, his work, exhibitions, sales of his pictures and of course the meaning of his art. His letters reveal the challenges he faced during aging and illness, and his determination to keep painting as health difficulties mounted. He stopped writing to me when he became seriously ill two years before his death. In this context the late paintings, presented in colour in this book, take on a new poignancy.

Waterside Press Alex's Dad Goes to Prison
Alex's Dad Goes to Prison is the first in the new Parent in Prison Series of books for children of imprisoned parents. It portrays the challenges they face and allows them to understand they are not alone. The book seeks to explain in simple terms why the parent was arrested and sent to prison. It describes what happens whilst the parent is in prison (such as visits and letters) and makes suggestions like starting a box in which to keep letters from and photos of the absent parent. The series aims to reduce stigma, feelings of isolation, and to show that children with a parent in prison can thrive. The series is pitched at younger readers and inspired by real life stories and events. Some 312,000 children have a parent in prison in the UK alone (2022) many of whom fall within the target age range (below) of this book. The figure is one in every 100 across Europe, millions of children worldwide, giving this vividly illustrated and attractively written work considerable potential.

The essays are dealing with central topics concerning the Corinthian correspondence with special reference to 2 Corinthians. Some of the studies present a fresh look on the much disputed Pauline pneuma/gramma-antithesis resp. Paul’s understanding of the „old“ and „new“ covenant. Other essays examine e.g. the unity of 2 Corinthians, the structure of arguments in ch. 10–13, the background and purpose of the mission against Paul, the history and theological foundation of the collection for Jerusalem, the Wirkungsgeschichte of 2 Corinthians in the New Testament writings, or shed new light on the interpretation of relevant passages within the context of 2 Corinthians.
