On April 24, 2021, the designer Alber Elbaz passed away due to complications from Covid-19. The artistic director of the House of Lanvin from 2001 to 2016, he was the most consequential figure from the fashion community lost to the pandemic. Love Brings Love, the celebration of Alber Elbaz s life and work that concluded Paris Fashion Week on October 5, 2021 remains a unique event in the recent history of the industry. In tribute, 44 designers, from nearly all the French and Italian maisons, to his dear friends in Japan and the United States, created dresses for a memorial fashion show the first collaborative one to have ever been held in Paris. Of the over 70 looks, thirty were by Alber, posthumously executed by his team at AZ Factory. From the 1940s to the 1980s, some of the best resi-dences in Northern California were decorated by a coterie of designers whose names were once recognized only by the cognoscenti of interior design. From Frances Elkins and Tony Hail, with their aristocratic aesthetics, to Michael Taylor and John Dickinson, with their bold fantasies, these designers created revolutionary settings that were idiomatic of their time and place fresh, luxurious spaces complementing the various terrains and lifestyles of the northern part of the state. Fred Lyon (b. 1924) is perhaps the only photographer who knew and documented the work of this talented group. Akin to what Julius Shulman was doing in Southern California, Lyon worked closely with the designers and magazine editors to help shape the look for posterity. In the years following the work of these giants, most of the spaces they created are gone or vastly changed, replaced by different tastes and new styles. Now re-appreciated for their artistry, we can relive this exciting era through Lyon s superb photography.

In collaboration with Peruvian anthropologist Francesco D Angelo, Gabriel Barreto Bentin offers an intimate portrait of the Andean society of Cusco, Peru. This socio-anthropological, photographic study offers a unique perspective on the Andino people, exploring narratives of spatial modernity and social hierarchies, challenging the commonly portrayed cliched romantic versions of indigenous people pictured against breathtaking landscapes devoid of social context. Bentin travelled to Cusco and the Sacred Valley to photograph locals against white backgrounds, focusing on how they dress for different types of work and occasions. The images portray the diversity of the Andean people through their faces and attire, irrespective of the landscape. The portraits are accompanied by observations by neighbors from nearby communities interviews that explicitly guide the reader through the articulation of modernity in the Andean society of Cusco.
