The title "The Late Derrida", with all puns and ambiguities cheerfully intended, points to the late work of Jacques Derrida, the vast outpouring of new writing by and about him in the period roughly from 1994 to 2004. In this period, Derrida published more than he had produced during his entire career up to that point. At the same time, this volume deconstructs the whole question of lateness and the usefulness of periodization. It calls into question the "fact" of Derrida's turn to politics, law, and ethics and highlights continuities throughout his oeuvre. The scholars included here write of Derrida's newest work and how it affects their earlier understandings of such classic texts as "Glas" and "Of Grammatology". Some have been closely associated with Derrida since the beginning - both in France and in the United States - but none can be called Derrideans. For Sarah Christianson, home is a 1,200-acre farm in the Red River Valley of North Dakota. Her parents are the fourth, and last, consecutive generation to work this land. She combined her images with materials from her family’s archive to create a rich, multilayered narrative about family tradition, agriculture, emigration and the passage of time. Sarah Christianson (b. 1982) grew up on a four-generation family farm near Cummings, North Dakota. Christianson holds an MFA in photography from the University of Minnesota. Her work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in the collections of several institutions in the Midwest and the National Museum of Photography in Copenhagen, Denmark. She has also received grants from the San Francisco Arts Commission and the Center for Cultural Innovation.

In an effort to expand the clinical theory of psychoanalysis, John E. Gedo and Arnold Goldberg delineate and order the various generally accepted systems of psychological functioning, considered here as "models of the mind." The authors provide a historical review of four major models of the mind: the topographic model, the reflex arc model, the tripartite model, and an object relations model. They then investigate the possible hierarchical interrelationships of such models. Each model is shown to represent a different facet of mental functioning and is thus employable on an ad hoc basis. The models are shown not to cancel on another out but to allow for theoretical complementarity. Gedo and Goldberg apply their theory to four classic psychoanalytic case studies to demonstrate its effectiveness: Freud's Rat Man, his Wolf Man, the case of Daniel Paul Schreber, and a case of arrested development. For each of these cases the authors show how it would have been both possible and advantageous to apply a variety of different theories as facts about each continued to accumulate.

Breviaries, books of standard religious readings for particular denominations, are a familiar genre with a long pedigree. But you’ve definitely never seen a breviary like this one. The Sex of the Angels is a playful, often ironic take on the breviary in the form of a collection of letters that begins by taking up early Christian cosmology and follows the Biblical mutations of the angel from Babylon to the present day. As it goes along, Raoul Schrott also weaves in a history which ranges from ancient Greek legends of the origin of light to the medieval darkness of the eclipse. But there is more going on here than meets the eye: the letters are addressed to an unnamed “other” and chart the course of an elusive affair. Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn (c.1606-1669) was the most talked-about painter of the 17th-century - and quite possibly of the following centuries too.
