Après la mise en place de cette élite de soldats en 1942, on y découvre leur long et douloureux entraînement aux États-Unis et au Royaume-Uni ainsi que les premiers combats sur Dieppe, en Afrique du Nord, en Sicile et en Italie. Puis vient le débarquement du 6 juin 1944. Un détaillé très minutieux des bombardements sur la Pointe du Hoc nous permet de saisir toute la puissance des destructions que subit le point d’appui en vue de l’assaut. Le récit complet de l’incroyable traversée en mer des Rangers jusqu’aux plages de Normandie nous plonge ensuite rapidement au coeur d’Overlord. Puis, il laisse place aux violents combats jusqu’au 8 juin, sur la Pointe du Hoc, mais aussi tous les affrontements sur Omaha Beach. De nombreux témoignages poignants, de soldats mais aussi de civils normands, permettent de rentrer dans l’âme de la bataille. Après la prise de la Pointe du Hoc, nous est révélé l’avenir des Rangers en Europe et le destin très singulier de certains d’entre-eux après la guerre. Plus de deux cent soixante-dix photographies, dont de nombreuses inédites et en haute définition, ainsi que des cartes intuitives, permettent de se repérer sur les champs de bataille. Un détaillé des bombardiers, des péniches et du matériel innombrable utilisé pour les combats offre, en plus, un éclairage passionnant pour se plonger dans l’événement et répondre de manière poussée à de nombreuses questions.

Ce volume présente les actes d’un colloque international organisé conjointement par l’université de la Sorbonne et l’université de Genève à Paris entre le 12 et le 15 février 2015. Cette réunion avait pour objectif d’établir un «état de l’art» de la documentation papyrologique de l’Ancien Empire égyptien, et plus généralement de celle des archives administratives qui nous sont connues pour cette période de l’histoire pharaonique (lettres, comptabilités, inventaires, journaux de bords d’équipes de travail, listes de personnel). Elle a permis de réunir la quasi totalité des chercheurs qui étudient ce type de sources, et de présenter successivement des lots documentaires, ou parfois certains documents isolés, issus de la région memphite (papyrus d’Abousir et de Saqqara), de la Haute et Moyenne Egypte (Meir, Sharouna, Gebelein, Elephantine), voire de zones plus périphériques de l’espace égyptien ayant également livré des archives similaires (ouadi el-Jarf sur la côte de la mer Rouge, Balat/Ayn Asil, dans l’oasis de Dakhla). Pour chacun de ces dossiers, les contributeurs font le point sur la documentation disponible et l’avancement des études la concernant. This collective volume presents the proceedings of an international symposium co-organized by Sorbonne university and Geneva university in Paris between February 12th and 15th 2015. The aim of the such a meeting was to establish a «state of the art» of the papyrological documentation known to us for this specific period of pharaonic history (letters, accounting documents, inventories, working teams’ logbooks, personnel registers). By bringing together most specialists of this type of historic sources, it has enabled a complete presentation of the main series of documents from the Memphite area (papyri of Abusir and Sakkara), from Upper or Middle Egypt (Meir, Sharuna, Gebelein, Elephantine), or even from more remote places like the wadi el-Jarf harbour on the Red sea shores or Balat-Ayn Asil archives in the Dakhla oasis. Each contributor gives an overview of the available documentation and the most recent studies related to it. Numerous examples, some of them hitherto unpublished, are illustrated in this volume so as to better understand the way those lots are organized and to fully apprehend how the administration of this period was managed at the provincial as well as central level.

The book of Leviticus is by far the most quoted in rabbinic literature such as the Mishna or the Talmud, while it has been marginalized in the Christian tradition. Nevertheless, scholars of both traditions have again become highly interested in it for some decades now. As shown by many recent publications, the book is thoroughly studied for textual, literary, historical and reception aspects. It has often been said and written that the text of Leviticus is stable in comparison to many other books of the Hebrew Bible, and that its Greek translation is quite literal. Yet, the text of Leviticus continues to raise questions, not only regarding its content and textual witnesses, but also its interpretation, history and reception. The third international colloquium of the Dominique Barthélemy Institute, held in Fribourg in October 2015, aimed to bring together some specialists of the text of Leviticus in order to advance research on its textual witnesses and the aforementioned topics. The articles collected in this book reflect the width of current research. They deal with the witnesses to the text of Leviticus in the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Masoretic Text, the Samaritan Pentateuch and the Septuagint. They also study the book’s Hebrew editing; its relation to other books such as Joshua, Luke-Acts and Flavius Josephus; and the challenge of its translation, with a case study in French. Le livre du Lévitique est de loin le plus cité dans la littérature juive, notamment la Mishna ou le Talmud, alors qu’il a été marginalisé dans la tradition chrétienne. Néanmoins, depuis quelques décennies, les chercheurs des deux bords se sont intéressés à ce livre. De nombreuses publications récentes montrent qu’il est étudié dans tous ses aspects textuels, littéraires, historique et dans sa réception. On a souvent affirmé que le texte du Lévitique est plus stable que celui de beaucoup d’autres livres de la Bible hébraïque, que sa traduction grecque est littérale, etc. Pourtant, ce texte continue de soulever des questions, non seulement en ce qui concerne ses témoins textuels, mais aussi son interprétation, son histoire et sa réception. Tenu à Fribourg en Octobre 2015, le troisième colloque international de l’Institut Dominique Barthélemy entendait rassembler quelques spécialistes du texte du Lévitique pour avancer dans la recherche sur ces différents sujets. Les études rassemblées dans ce volume reflètent le vaste champ de recherche sur ce livre biblique. Elles touchent à la manière dont le Lévitique apparaît dans les témoins textuels, notamment les manuscrits de la Mer Morte, le Texte Massorétique, le Pentateuque Samaritain et la Septante. Elles abordent également les défis de son édition hébraïque, ses relations avec d’autres livres comme Josué, Luc-Actes et Flavius Josèphe et enfin les enjeux de sa traduction française.

These objects do not have a single purpose. This is the central premise that guides the research within this book. Throughout the volume the reader will follow a representation of a marine hunter-gatherer society, a projection deriving from one of its iconic and most important material assets, the harpoon. This very technical object will be studied not only for its most evident function - hunting at sea – and the work delves into the structural, symbolic, technological and world-building aspects of the human societies that used them. To achieve this goal the text begins with a judgment about the role of marine hunting, its prey, and the agents involved in different coastal societies on the American continent, in order to create a comprehensive framework of reference for the subject. It continues by focussing on clarifying, defining and discussing the concept of harponage from technology compared with other historical and ethnographic cases of marine hunters across the globe. A typology of harpoon points from the Atacama Desert is presented, with classification based on their technical attributes, constituent units, composition features and articulation mechanisms, in order to evaluate the chronological scope and geographical distribution of each one of the types of harpoon heads from the last 7000 years of coastal history. The text then explores the multiple values and meanings of the harpoons of the Atacama Desert. The book finally examines the social reasons that influenced the development of an incredibly sophisticated and complex technology of marine hunting. Inferences that take it out of the sea and away from hunting, towards hypotheses that seek answers in the cultural determinism stemming from technical decisions, to utilise technology as another mechanism to establish and strengthen social bonds in the construction of worlds between different agents and collectives, and no longer as a simple tool to satisfy subsistence needs. | Les objets n’ont pas un seul objectif.
