Philip Wilson Publishers Ltd The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale Junior
A beautifully illustrated catalogue bringing cabinet-maker Thomas Chippendale Junior out of the shadow of his father. The Chippendale cabinet-making firm, founded by Thomas Chippendale Senior in about 1750, became famous partly through the successful publication of The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director (1754, re-published 1755 and 1762), but also through the fine furniture supplied to a number of illustrious clients. Chippendale Senior ran the workshop for just over twenty years and his eldest son, Thomas Chippendale Junior, continued the business for over forty years; the first two decades in partnership with Thomas Haig. Chippendale Senior's work has been well-documented but Chippendale Junior's work has never, until now, been thoroughly researched. The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale Junior repairs this omission. His patrons included members of the Royal Family, aristocrats, landed gentry and antiquarians; he was adept at satisfying their demands, whether they required lavish gilt or simpler, often mahogany, pieces. Where family archives and original settings survive, as at Harewood House, Paxton House and Stourhead, they reveal the variety and quality of Chippendale's output. An analysis of client's invoices, even when the furniture can no longer be traced, for the first time provides a colourful view of what customers chose and what prices they paid.

Thames & Hudson Ltd The Unfinished Palazzo: Life, Love and Art in Venice
Abandoned unfinished and left to rot on Venice’s Grand Canal, ‘il palazzo non finito’ was once an unloved guest among the aristocrats of Venetian architecture. Yet in the 20th century it played host to three passionate and unconventional women who would take the city by storm. The staggeringly wealthy Marchesa Luisa Casati made her new home a belle epoque aesthete’s fantasy and herself a living work of art; notorious British socialite Doris Castlerosse (née Delevingne) welcomed film stars and royalty to glittering parties between the wars; and American heiress Peggy Guggenheim amassed an exquisite collection of modern art, which today draws visitors from around the world. Each in turn used the Unfinished Palazzo as a stage on which to re-fashion her life, with a dazzling supporting cast ranging from D’Annunzio and Nijinsky, through Noël Coward, Winston Churchill and Cecil Beaton, to Yoko Ono. Individually sensational and collectively remarkable, these stories of modern Venice tell us much about the ways women chose to live in the 20th century.

Monacelli Press Artfully Modern: Interiors by Richard Mishaan
The follow-up volume to Richard Mishaan's first monograph, Modern Luxury, showcasing the AD100 designer's most outstanding projects of the past five years. Interior designer Richard Mishaan believes that all furniture and decorative accessories with inherently good form can be combined successfully regardless of style, period, or price. He creates exuberant, bold, glamorous spaces known for their masterful use of art that are nevertheless comfortable above all. In his work, every room is treated to at least one small luxury: bespoke embroidery on a wall covering, a shimmery midcentury Murano-glass chandelier, or a screen covered in wallpaper patterned like malachite. Mishaan believes that the best interiors are layered and rich. He skillfully brings together furnishings and objects from myriad eras - Italian neoclassic, seventeenth-century French, African tribal, Art Deco, Biedermeier - in a contemporary fusion style that has become his signature. This volume covers Mishaan’s best work since 2009 and includes a dozen spaces of every scale, from gemlike city apartments to Hamptons estates and the presidential suite at the St. Regis Hotel. Throughout, he weaves tips on how to live well in any size dwelling; full-color photography illustrates his ideas for truly personalizing spaces and for injecting areas devoted completely to comfort in every room.

Each stunning, gift edition features deluxe cover treatments, ribbon markers, luxury endpapers and gilded edges. David Copperfield is the story of a hard life endured is ultimately rewarded because of perseverance, kindness and common sense. Copperfield loses his father as a child, his mother then marries Murdstone, a cruel man who oppresses her and sends the boy away from home to a hostel. His mother dies, then Copperfield is sent to a factory, before running away to his Aunt Betsey Trotwood who protects him and whose relationship he maintains throughout his life. Further suffering follows though when Copperfield's first wife dies in childbirth, but by the end of the novel he too marries once more, finally to live towards a happy end, with Agnes and their three children. Throughout, Dickens highlights the systemic abuse of the weak, the ill, and, often, the female, eager to show that society is at fault for poverty, not the individual, so the poor should be helped, not victimised.
