This book reports on results related to the impact of magnetic anisotropy on the properties of a new type of nanocomposite consisting of ferromagnetic nanoparticles embedded in carbon nanotubes. The authors demonstrate that when each nanotube contains only one ferromagnetic nanoparticle, the magneto-elastic anisotropy leads to the formation of densely packed arrays of magnetically isolated nanoparticles. Following this, the aspects of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of FeCoZr-CaF2 nanocomposite films induced by shape anisotropy of metallic nanoparticles are explored, as well as the methods of anisotropy enhancement by the films treatment. Several examples of the prospective technical applications of magnetic liquids are presented. Three examples are discussed in more detail in the final chapter: controlled torsion dampers for applications in transportation, ferrofluid controlled capacitors for applications in sensor technology, and peristaltic pumps that take advantage of magneto-elastic properties.

Exhausted by the crossing and suffering from sea sicknesses, the assault units were convinced, however, that the German defenses had been crushed by the aerial and naval bombardment. In fact, sheltering in their coastal fortifications which they had been working to improve up until the very evening before, the Germany infantry waited until the Americans reached the shoreline before opening fire. 0630 hours. The landing craft of the first wave beached and lowered their ramps. That was the moment the enemy had been waiting for, and on the beach soon called Bloody Omaha, all hell broke loose. This volume brings to life that page of history. The first part introduces the forces on both sides, presents the American plan and explains in detail the German defensive positions. The second part details the landing of the successive waves followed by a blow-by-blow account of the GIs on the beach under a hail of fire in the middle of the anti-invasion obstacles. Lyotard's analysis, preparatory to his work in The Differend and subsequent publications, is a radical rereading of the Kantian "faculties," traditionally understood as functions of the mind, in terms of a philosophy of phrases derived from Lyotard's prior encounters with Wittgenstein's theory of language games. The result is a kind of "fourth" critique based in Kant's later political and historical writings, with an emphasis on understanding the place of those sudden and unscripted events that have the power to reshape the political/historical landscape (such as the French Revolution, May 1968, and others).
