The Self-Publishing Partnership Ltd The Fight For The South Downs
Those who have a deep affection for Britain's countryside will be totally absorbed by this extraordinary history of environmentalists' efforts to conserve the glorious South Downs. After describing the special qualities of the area and earlier attempts to safeguard it, the story of a twenty-year campaign to secure National Park status for this special part of England is recounted. Strong forces opposed, but the South Downs Campaign, which eventually grew to represent 159 national, regional and local groups, won through and the national park was established in 2010. Author Robin Crane chaired the meeting of seven people who founded the South Downs Campaign in 1990. He remained chairman until the South Downs National Park was finally designated. From the outset the campaign was run by a team of both volunteers and professionals. The Campaign for National Parks, The Ramblers Association, Sussex Wildlife Trust and Sussex and Hampshire CPREs were the lead organisations. Margaret Paren, wh

The Self-Publishing Partnership Ltd Delirium Daze: A Covid Journey
Is the COVID-19 pandemic now a distant memory, and did you wonder what all the fuss was about? It was life-changing for Allen Yates and his family, a story that they will never forget.. During the height of the pandemic, Allen Yates contracted a life-threatening COVID-19 infection, leading to him spending 102 days in hospital, 68 of them in intensive care and half on a ventilator in an induced coma. During that time, Allen experienced many bouts of delirium, vividly blending the reality of what was happening around him with his body’s fight against the virus. At the same time, his sister Jackie was rooted in the harsh realities of his life-threatening illness and a national lockdown; she juggled being his medical advocate, the leading information point for an extended family and the matriarch of her own family. This fascinating book takes us on two parallel narratives through the time between Allen’s admission and his release from the hospital. One is a vivid, fantastical story based on Allen's notes during his lucid periods and recovery time; the other is Jackie’s detailed diary of what the medical team told her and what she saw during her visits. This intensely personal story of someone fighting to live and someone who can only watch a loved one battle back to health goes beyond the pandemic. This book is about survival, hope and the strength of family in the face of life-threatening illness. All proceeds from the book will go to the Wythenshawe Hospital and the teams that saved Allen's life.

The Self-Publishing Partnership Ltd STORMY PETREL: Aaron Ernest Gompertz and the rise of the South Shields Labour Party
It is often assumed that the rise of the Labour Party in the early to mid-20th century to become one of Britain’s two main political parties was assured. It was not. At the turn of the century most working-class men voted for the Liberal Party, and a majority of local and national Trades Union leaders were staunch Liberals. This book tells the remarkable story of the campaign in one area, South Shields on Tyneside, to establish a successful Labour Party; and the key role of one man, Aaron Ernest Gompertz, in that struggle. Orator, organiser and Parliamentary Agent to the town’s first Labour MP, James Chuter Ede, in eight general elections – Gompertz devoted his life to establishing an electorally powerful Labour Party in South Shields and saw its rise in the post-war period to become the dominant force in local politics. The rise of the Labour Party as a major political force in Britain owes just as much to local stalwarts like Gompertz as it does to the likes of Hardie, Henderson, MacDonald and Attlee.

Using these devices and through the power of imagination, they can see and interact with otherwise invisible magical creatures who inhabit each location. There’s more to discover as they explore this make-believe world, eventually arriving at a strange fancy dress funfair, which seems entangled with the magical places Kiran and Karma have discovered whilst on their adventure. The Self-Publishing Partnership Ltd The BRAVE SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH: A personal account of battles against the Japanese and then dacoits in Burma between 1944 & 1947
The Brave Shall Inherit the Earth is the motto of the Rajputana Rifles, the oldest rifle regiment in the pre-World-War-Two Indian Army. It is a fitting epitaph to this remarkable young officer who commanded the mortar platoon in 3/6th Rajputana Rifles during the 14th Army’s invasion of Burma in 1944. Denis O’Leary came from a family of soldiers; his father was also RajRif. Just out of officer training, a practicing Catholic, handsome, athletic, twenty years old, Denis joined 3/6th Rajputana Rifles on the eve of Field Marshal Slim’s invasion of Burma in 1944. This book is the story of his Regiment in that Homeric engagement. It is also about the close friendships formed in war between a British officer and his Rajput and Punjabi ‘Mussalman’ soldiers. The Regiment ‘had been fortunate in our introduction to war. It had been a gradual process.’ Luckily Denis learnt quickly and by the time he came to his Kurukshetra – a decisive battle to hold Pear Hill against suicidal Japanese attacks during the Irrawaddy crossings – his mettle had been tested and forged. During this battle, in which he won his first Military Cross, he was badly wounded by shrapnel and evacuated back to India for the rest of the war, only re-joining his beloved battalion in pre-Independence Burma, which this account also covers. Denis O’Leary was a life-long soldier, he is a modest historian, he writes simply but eloquently. There are few books so hauntingly beautiful about something so savage as war.
