The COVID-19 pandemic struck as a global problem, a virus spreading without respect for territorial boundaries. National responses to mitigate the multi-dimensional effects provoked by the pandemic have been varied. What factors within federal systems could be related to the success or failure of their attempts to face this crisis? How have political leaders been performing in the intergovernmental arena, along with subnational levels of government? American Federal Systems and COVID-19 analyzes five American federations – Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and United States – and how they have responded to a complex intergovernmental problem (CIP) such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Using an analytical model based on two dimensions – institutional design and political agency – this study shows how the combination between federal design and political leadership stances can develop different policy responses to face the challenge of the COVID-19. Handel is per definitie een sociale bezigheid, want het veronderstelt een wederzijdse handeling tussen minstens twee personen. Omdat handel ingrijpt in zoveel aspecten van de maatschappij, en we de oude maatschappijen willen doorgronden, is het noodzakelijk ons ook een beeld te vormen van hoe handel functioneerde in het Oude Nabije Oosten. There seems to be no brief English equivalent for the concept of a Berichtigungsliste. This demotic Berichtigungsliste collects and critically presents corrections and supplements to editions of demotic documentary texts: papyri, ostraka, inscriptions, mummy labels, graffiti - everything demotic that was not clearly written as a secular or religious literary composition. The editors have added all the information they have found concerning inventory numbers and photographs as well as republications of the texts in question that the scholar working with the texts will find useful. Although the Berichtigungsliste chiefly concerns text editions, be they published in monographs or articles, texts that have been published only in photography or facsimile are also included. The period covered for the publications that have been ransacked for the purpose of the Berichtigungsliste is roughly the Twentieth Century: 1900-2000. In subsequent volumes, the editors intend to extend the time-range into the Nineteenth Century as well as into the future.

This handbook is the first collection of comprehensive teaching materials for teachers and students of Central Asian Studies (CAS) with a strong pedagogic dimension. It presents 22 chapters, clustered around five themes, with contributions from more than 19 scholars, all leading experts in the field of CAS and Eurasian Studies. This collection is not only a reference work for scholars branching out to different disciplines of CAS but also for scholars from other disciplines broadening their scope to CAS. It addresses post-colonial frameworks and also untangles topics from their 'Soviet' reference frame. It aims to de-exoticize the region and draws parallels to European or to historically European-occupied territories. In each chapter, the handbook provides a concise but nuanced overview of the topics covered, in which way these have been approached by the mainstream literature, and points out pitfalls, myths, and new insights, providing background knowledge about Central Asia to readers and intertwine this with an advanced level of insight to leave the readers equipped with a strong foundation to approach more specialized sources either in classroom settings or by self-study.
