Waterside Publishing Law and Vengeance
Idealistic. Combative. Tenacious. The Bergman-Deketomis Law Firm is back on the case! Mike Papantonio introduced Nick “Deke” Deketomis and his associates in Law and Disorder, the powerful first installment of his legal saga. His new book, Law and Vengeance, has them pitted against an even deadlier foe. In Law and Vengeance, we find that several characters from the previous novel continue to fight the good fight: Nick “Deke” Deketomis is a world-class trial lawyer with the firm that bears his name. For decades, he battled some of the world’s most reckless and corrupt corporations; but now he is confronted with a new level of corporate criminality. Gina Romano is a beautiful and determined woman who built her career as a criminal trial lawyerby believing she could play by the rules and still achieve justice. She is about to learn that the law of vengeance works with a different set of rules. Angus Moore is a gentle giant of a man, but a relentless pit bull of an attorney. He has no idea of the mortal danger his life is in after he takes the lead on the case against the world’s largest arms dealer, Arbalest Corporation. In Law and Vengeance, the Bergman-Deketomis firm sets its sights on an unscrupulous weapons manufacturer and a corrupt Chicago police union. The law firm is accustomed to going to war with opponents who value big profits more than a human life, but this is uncharted territory even for them. Once again, Mike Papantonio interweaves the intricacies of his trade in trial law with highly developed character studies to deliver action that jumps off of the page. Law and Vengeance will leave you catching your breath as the story accelerates to its explosive conclusion.

Simon & Schuster Ltd Tomorrow
FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BESTSELLING MOTHERING SUNDAY AND LAST ORDERS, and reissued for the first time on the Scribner list, this is an intensely moving novel about a night that will change one family beyond recognition. On a June night Paula, a successful art dealer, lies awake, Mike, her husband of twenty-five years, asleep beside her. In nearby rooms their twin teenage children, Nick and Kate, sleep too. The next day, Paula knows, will define all their lives. As dawn approaches, Paula recalls the years before and after her children were born. Her story is both a celebration of love possessed and a moving acknowledgement of the fear of loss, of the fragilities on which even our most inward sense of who we are can rest. Graham Swift’s apparently most domestic book is that rare thing in fiction, a novel about happiness, though a happiness that is not all that it seems. An intimate and tender tale of a marriage, a family and a home, it begins to embrace big themes: nature and nurture, the illusory and the real. Praise for Mothering Sunday: ‘Bathed in light; and even when tragedy strikes, it blazes irresistibly… Swift’s small fiction feels like a masterpiece’Guardian 'Alive with sensuousness and sensuality … wonderfully accomplished, it is an achievement’ Sunday Times ‘From start to finish Swift’s is a novel of stylish brilliance and quiet narrative verve. The archly modulated, precise prose (a hybrid of Henry Green and Kazuo Ishiguro) is a glory to read. Now 66, Swift is a writer at the very top of his game’ Evening Standard ‘Mothering Sunday is a powerful, philosophical and exquisitely observed novel about the lives we lead, and the parallel lives – the parallel stories – we can never know … It may just be Swift’s best novel yet’Observer

The History Press Ltd The Perilous Catch: A History of Commercial Fishing
For centuries Britain’s commercial fishermen have ventured out into the ravages of the surrounding seas to bring fish back both to supply a home market and for export around the world. Fishing is one of history’s most dangerous jobs, and when disasters occur they can affect whole communities: in 1872 some 129 men were lost in one night alone. Fishermen have lost their lives because of extreme weather, fishing gear entanglement, lack of emergency support and often simply by falling overboard. Today, commercial fishing remains one of the most perilous occupations and still claims the lives of fishermen each year, leaving their families behind. The Perilous Catch is a well-researched, comprehensive and poignant history of the fishing industry written by maritime historian Mike Smylie.

Just how much has changed in Chippenham over the decades is clear when you consider that Edward Hutton described 1920s Chippenham as ‘one of the sleepiest places in England’. In this fascinating book, local historian Mike Stone compares archive images of Chippenham with modern photographs of the same scenes today, chronicling the changing appearance of the town and unveiling a wealth of historic detail and nostalgic memories sure to captivate local residents and history enthusiasts alike.

John Wiley and Sons Ltd Can Science Fix Climate Change?: A Case Against Climate Engineering
Climate change seems to be an insurmountable problem. Political solutions have so far had little impact. Some scientists are now advocating the so-called 'Plan B', a more direct way of reducing the rate of future warming by reflecting more sunlight back to space, creating a thermostat in the sky. In this book, Mike Hulme argues against this kind of hubristic techno-fix. Drawing upon a distinguished career studying the science, politics and ethics of climate change, he shows why using science to fix the global climate is undesirable, ungovernable and unattainable. Science and technology should instead serve the more pragmatic goals of increasing societal resilience to weather risks, improving regional air quality and driving forward an energy technology transition. Seeking to reset the planet’s thermostat is not the answer.

Princeton University Press The Butterfly Defect: How Globalization Creates Systemic Risks, and What to Do about It
The Butterfly Defect addresses the widening gap between the new systemic risks generated by globalization and their effective management. It shows how the dynamics of turbo-charged globalization has the potential and power to destabilize our societies. Drawing on the latest insights from a wide variety of disciplines, Ian Goldin and Mike Mariathasan provide practical guidance for how governments, businesses, and individuals can better manage globalization and risk. Goldin and Mariathasan demonstrate that systemic risk issues are now endemic everywhere--in supply chains, pandemics, infrastructure, ecology and climate change, economics, and politics. Unless we address these concerns, they will lead to greater protectionism, xenophobia, nationalism, and, inevitably, deglobalization, rising inequality, conflict, and slower growth. The Butterfly Defect shows that mitigating uncertainty and risk in an interconnected world is an essential task for our future.

Permuted Press Manhood Manifesto: How Men Must Lead at Home, at Work, and in the Public Sphere
In a depressed society infected with the diseases of anxiety, fear, hatred, and hopelessness, restoring traditional Masculine Leadership provides the only source of hope.Manhood Manifesto is a book about men, their leadership, and the condition of masculinity today. We live in the greatest country in the world—the United States of America. We also live in one of the most dynamic periods of time in history. This book is about the opportunity we have as Americans, especially men. This book calls forth the character and skills of American men. To who much is given, much is expected. We live in challenging times, and American men are more than capable of meeting those challenges. To meet those challenges though, there needs to be a willingness and acceptance of the responsibilities required. This book looks at where we are and how we got here, creating a pathway in which to engage. This process is intended to restore the trust, affinity, and community that has been pushed to its limits in the most recent months and years. The book does so in a way that is somewhat irreverent yet respectful, serious yet fun, and challenging yet empowering. Mike Shereck has a bias toward men, simply because he is one. If change must occur, it will begin with him and those like and near him. In Mike’s view, for society’s problems to be solved, first men must own it. From the position of ownership, we can now address it. That is what is done in this book in a direct, bold, courageous, sometimes shocking, always heartfelt and humorous way.

University of Oklahoma Press Flying to Victory: Raymond Collishaw and the Western Desert Campaign, 1940–1941
Canadian-born flying ace Raymond Collishaw (1893-1976) served in Britain's air forces for twenty-eight years. As a pilot in World War I he was credited with sixty-one confirmed kills on the Western Front. When World War II began in 1939, Air Commodore Collishaw commanded a Royal Air Force group in Egypt. It was in Egypt and Libya in 1940-41, during the Britain's Western Desert campaign, that he demonstrated the tenets of an effective air-ground cooperation system. Flying to Victory examines Raymond Collishaw's contribution to the British system of tactical air support - a pattern of operations that eventually became standard in the Allied air forces and proved to be a key factor in the Allied victory. The British Army and Royal Air Force entered the war with conflicting views on the issue of air support that hindered the success of early operations. It was only after the chastening failure of Operation Battleaxe in June 1941, fought according to army doctrine, that Winston Churchill shifted strategy on the direction of future air campaigns - ultimately endorsing the RAF's view of mission and target selection. This view adopted principles of air-ground cooperation that Collishaw had demonstrated in combat. Author Mike Bechthold traces the emergence of this strategy in the RAF air campaign in Operation Compass, the first British offensive in the Western Desert, in which Air Commodore Collishaw's small force overwhelmed its Italian counterpart and disrupted enemy logistics.Flying to Victory details the experiences that prepared Collishaw so well for this campaign and that taught him much about the application of air power, especially how to work effectively with the army and Royal Navy. As Bechthold shows, these lessons learned altered the Allied approach to tactical air support and, ultimately, changed the course of the Second World War.
