Pegasus Books Chekhov Becomes Chekhov: The Emergence of a Literary Genius
A revelatory portrait of Chekhov during the most extraordinary artistic surge of his life.In 1886, a twenty-six-year-old Anton Chekhov was publishing short stories, humor pieces, and articles at an astonishing rate, and was still a practicing physician. Yet as he honed his craft and continued to draw inspiration from the vivid characters in his own life, he found himself—to his surprise and occasional embarrassment—admired by a growing legion of fans, including Tolstoy himself. He had not yet succumbed to the ravages of tuberculosis. He was a lively, frank, and funny correspondent and a dedicated mentor. And as Bob Blaisdell discovers, his vivid articles, stories, and plays from this period—when read in conjunction with his correspondence—become a psychological and emotional secret diary. When Chekhov struggled with his increasingly fraught engagement, young couples are continually making their raucous way in and out of relationships on the page. When he was overtaxed by his medical duties, his doctor characters explode or implode. Chekhov’s talented but drunken older brothers and Chekhov’s domineering father became transmuted into characters, yet their emergence from their family's serfdom is roiling beneath the surface. Chekhov could crystalize the human foibles of the people he knew into some of the most memorable figures in literature and drama. In Chekhov Becomes Chekhov, Blaisdell astutely examines the psychological portraits of Chekhov's distinct, carefully observed characters and how they reflect back on their creator during a period when there seemed to be nothing between his imagination and the paper he was writing upon.

Inner Traditions Bear and Company Catching the Ascension Wave: Everything You Need to Know about the Coming Great Awakening
Right now, there is an enormous infusion of higher dimensional energy--a “Galactic Super Wave”--that is dramatically raising the vibratory rate of our planet and everyone on it. As Bob Frissell explains, in order to catch this wave of ascension and survive and thrive during the coming Great Awakening, we must undergo a personal transformation to raise our vibration and align with the Higher Self within each of us. Frissell explores the forces working to advance our planetary ascent into higher consciousness--as well as those seeking to block it. Going back over 500,000 years of Earth history, he looks at the role of the ancient Builder Race from Venus and other ET races, such as the Greys and the Anshars, in our evolutionary development and rapid technological advancements. He exposes government cover-ups of alien encounters as well as the startling details of our Secret Space Program, the New World Order, and the Depopulation Agenda. He explains how the Precession of the Equinoxes is directly influencing Earth’s awakening and how the dance between the “forces of darkness” and the “forces of light” actually allows consciousness to evolve. Sharing exercises, tools, and techniques to transmute the energies blocking access to your Higher Self, Frissell explores how the infusion of higher dimensional energy is impacting planet Earth and each of us. He shows how reconnecting with your Higher Self enables you to harness the ability to create great abundance and recognize our intimate connection to all life and to the Infinite Creator. Unveiling the incoming new energetic configuration for the Earth, Frissell details how the Great Awakening is nothing less than the birth of a new humanity and how, by raising your vibration, you help in the co-creation of Heaven on Earth.

i2i Publishing Lotus of Kashmir
Bob Saunders was called up for National Service on VJ (Victory in Japan) Day, 1945, at the age of 18. Early the following year, he was posted to India, where he stayed during the momentous era of Partition, before returning to England in October 1947. A few years after returning from India, Bob opened his own travel agency in Batley, a town eight miles south of Leeds, having been greatly impressed by his experiences of India and travel during his National Service. Bob decided to call his travel agency PhotoTravel, as the business sold not only holidays and luggage, but also photographic services. A neighbour suggested he used a European spelling, ‘Foto’ instead, and so FotoTravel was born. The agency was approved by ABTA and Bob ran it for over 25 years. Lotus of Kashmir has taken Bob 75 years to complete! The book is based on Bob’s diaries of his time in India from 1946-47, and two or three years ago, around 2019-20, he began to add the romantic fiction element. Bob finally completed this task in 2022.

Wessex Astrologer Ltd Planetary Combination
Planetary Combination picks up where Planetary Strength left off, explaining how the planetary influences combine in aspects and configurations to paint a picture of a person and his or her life. Descriptions of planetary configurations such as grand trines, grand squares, T-squares, wedges, fans, rectangles, kites, and trapezoids provide overall schematics of people's psychological dynamics. Then, detailed interpretations for the conjunctions, sextiles/trines, squares, oppositions, parallels/contraparallels, and mutual receptions between the individual planets enable the practitioner to see clearly how these dynamics work out in a particular horoscope. An illuminating chapter on planetary conjunctions with the Moon's nodes reveals the underlying karmic influences at work. An indispensable reference you'll consult every time you read a chart. "Planetary Combination is an excellent and comprehensive summary of all the relevant chart factors...One has to search hard to find such material! But this is all presented, as is all of Makransky's work, with vigour, wisdom and accessibility...Much of the book is taken up - as we might expect - with a very generous coverage of the astrological aspects. I looked up a few of my own and they were spot on...Planetary Combination fills a gap in the current state of astrological literature. It manages to retain both a sense of firm tradition whilst feeling utterly new and fresh." James Lynn Page, author of Everyday Tarot, Celtic Magic, The Christ Enigma and The New Positive Thinking.

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Teaching Amos: From text to message
The fundamental conviction underlying the series is that when the Bible is faithfully taught, God's voice is clearly heard. Few commentaries are written specifically with the preacher or Bible teacher in mind, and with the sermon or Bible talk as the point of reference. The preacher, the sermon or talk, and the listener are the 'key' drivers in this series. 'Teaching Amos' is written by Dr Bob Fyall, who has a particular passion for preaching and teaching the Old Testament. He is author of a number of books, including the Focus on the Bible volume on Daniel. Having first outlined a number of possible approaches to constructing a series of sermons or talks on Amos, Bob unlocks the text based on a suggested structure of nine sermons or talks. Individual chapters are specifically geared towards working from text to sermon, combining rigorous exposition with relevant application, always with an eye to the main teaching point of the passage. This volume will not only encourage better preaching on Amos, but serve as a timely reminder of the striking relevance of the prophet's message for today.

Troubador Publishing The Snake That Bites Its Tail
In 1965, nineteen-year-old Robin Farnham believes he ran over an old man but on stopping his car, finds no body, merely a gold bracelet of a snake biting its tail. In 1981, sixteen-year-old Jane Foster is sexually abused by her adoptive father and attacks him before fleeing to London where she consults Dr Peter Lakmaker, a psychiatrist. In 2021, now retired, Farnham is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and prescribed a drug on clinical trial. He attempts suicide but awakes in hospital to be told he is suspected of murder. Protected from the police by Dr Lakmaker, Robin is encouraged to write about his life to monitor the new drug’s effectiveness. Over a period of half a century, Robin and Jane’s lives are interrelated although it is not until the year 2000, they finally meet. Robin’s quest for the truth behind his involvement in not one, but three murders and Jane’s tormented search for her birth parents and the close family relationship denied her as a child are muddied by the strangely prophetic Oroborous bracelet Robin wears and the appearance of the vengeance seeking Krait. Separating fact from fiction has rarely presented more of a challenge, for the characters in the story or the reader.

Key Publishing Ltd Lockheed SR-71
The SR-71 Blackbird was a high-altitude, long-range Lockheed reconnaissance black' jet that emerged during the 1960s. It was produced under tremendous secrecy and initially flown from areas away from public gaze. It was stationed in the USA but plied its trade from a handful of selected sites worldwide. SR-71 missions were flown by the USAF, but often on behalf of other agencies, with it frequently gathering intelligence for the Navy against maritime targets in the Soviet Arctic. Unfortunately, the Blackbird was unpopular with the fighter' and bomber' generals, who were not privy to its outstanding intelligence gathering capability, and the staggering operating costs were such that eventually it lost support within the USAF and succumbed to budgetary constraints. Illustrated with over 160 illustrations, this book will detail the operations, select missions and the colour schemes/markings of this amazing aircraft.

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Why Are We Often So Boring?: Reflections on Preaching
All of the Bible is teachable. However some sections of The Word are easier to preach than others. Bob Fyall’s Why Are We So Often Boring? sets forth a clear discussion around the issues around expositional preaching to pastors, church leaders and students. With social, economic, political and health concerns inherent in many congregations, writing a sermon can be an exercise in balancing a tough equation; how to rely on the truth and relate it to people’s lives. The purpose of this book is to enthuse, encourage and stimulate those who teach the Bible. Fyall encourages teachers to rely less on behavioural and attitude centred questions, and more on God’s omnipotent work in the congregation’s hearts.

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Teaching 2 Kings: From Text to Message
2 Kings begins with the succession of Elijah by Elisha and flows largely downward right up to the exile of Judah in Babylon. Amidst the numerous kings and serious failings there are always the vital signs that the true God is still on the throne and working out his purposes in his people and beyond. Like many other books containing Old Testament narrative, 1 and 2 Kings are both well–known and obscure. Certain stories are very familiar, others seldom preached or taught. It is our hope that this book will greatly help many people dig deeply into this epic narrative and serve people well by teaching it faithfully, relevantly and thoroughly. Teaching 1 and 2 Kings (of which this is the second volume of two) is an important contribution to our ‘Teaching the Bible’ series. Bob’s guiding hand will be of great assistance to anyone seeking to understand the familiar passages better and explore the lesser known stories well.

The History Press Ltd Cornish Family Names
The Cornish have for a long time long considered themselves a race apart from the English and their origins are indeed more related to those of the Welsh, Scottish and Breton peoples than to most others east of the River Tamar. Almost every town and village in Cornwall has been used as a surname, and the traditional Cornish trades of fishing and mining have also provided inspiration for family names. Features of the landscape such as hills and rivers have had a huge effect, with many of these containing elements of some names which can be tracked back to the old Celtic language, for example the prefixes Pen (headland) and Pol (pool). A lot of names are tied to a particular area of Cornwall: Rodda and Bottrell are seldom found east of Penzance, whilst names like Odgers, Opie and Wearne are most common in mid-Cornwall around the mining areas of Redruth and Gwennap. Surnames can reveal a lot about family history, but their origins can be difficult to trace. This handy lexicon, drawn together from an exhaustive research, serves as an ideal starting point for tracing ancestry. Packed with information about notable families and migration, this is also an ideal book for anyone interested in the story of Cornish people.

University of Notre Dame Press Lessons from Walden: Thoreau and the Crisis of American Democracy
Throughout this original and passionate book, Bob Pepperman Taylor presents a wide-ranging inquiry into the nature and implications of Henry David Thoreau’s thought in Walden and Civil Disobedience. Taylor pursues this inquiry in three chapters, each focusing on a single theme: chapter 1 examines simplicity and the ethics of “voluntary poverty,” chapter 2 looks at civil disobedience and the role of “conscience” in democratic politics, and chapter 3 concentrates on what “nature” means to us today and whether we can truly “learn from nature.” Taylor considers Thoreau’s philosophy, and the philosophical problems he raises, from the perspective of a wide range of thinkers and commentators drawn from history, philosophy, the social sciences, and popular media, breathing new life into Walden and asking how it is alive for us today. In Lessons from Walden, Taylor allows all sides to have their say, even as he persistently steers the discussion back to a nuanced reading of Thoreau’s actual position. With its tone of friendly urgency, this interdisciplinary tour de force will interest students and scholars of American literature, environmental ethics, and political theory, as well as environmental activists, concerned citizens, and anyone troubled with the future of democracy.
