This book showcases some unusual costume designs from more than two centuries of European fashion history ranging from Neo-Classicism and Biedermeier to the late 20th century and including cutting-edge creations by European fashion designers as well as aspiring young stars on the fashion firmament. These fashion designs show how ideals of beauty change, often defined by prevailing fashions and shaping the female silhouette in spectacular ways. The result of an international interdisciplinary research project, this publication is the first comprehensive monograph of a ceramics factory in Lower Silesia, the Feinsteinzeugfabrik Julius Paul &Sohn in Bunzlau, active from 1893 to 1945. A particular challenge for the authors was the fact that no historic source material had survived, all the regional achives and librairies having been destroyed during the war. Arnoldsche Norwegian Art Photography: 1970-2007
This book represents the first monograph on modern Norwegian photography from the 1970s to the present. It traces recent developments taking place in the four movements in photography: Subjectivism, Abstraction, Post-Modernism and Photorealism. Subjectivism reigned supreme in Norwegian photography until well into the 1980s. It was rooted in the principles that a photograph could not lie and had to reproduce reality. The early 1990s ushered in the dawn of Post-Modernism in Norwegian art. Photographs were no longer viewed as mirroring reality but rather as works whose meaning was context-related. The result of this shift in focus was an array of new possibilities for expression and new themes. Arnoldsche Claus Bury: The Poetry of Construction
Sculptor Claus Bury (b. 1946) has been enhancing public spaces in Germany for more than four decades with his monumental sculptures, which by now total more than 100. His canon of forms is comprised of geometric basic corpuses, such as squares and cubes, triangles and pyramids, rectangles, rhombuses and segments, which he employs in a contemporary Archaic style oriented on the antique structures of Egypt, Greece and Mexico. Arnoldsche Otto Prutscher: Universal Designer of Viennese Modernism
Otto Prutscher (1880-1949) was an architect and a designer in all applied arts media, as well as an exhibition designer, teacher and member of all the important arts and crafts movements, from the Secession to the Wiener Werkstätte and the Werkbund. The MAK - Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna - possesses a comprehensive graphic bequest and many significant objects from Prutscher's design oeuvre. Selected examples of Prutscher's creative work document his long-lasting influential role as a designer and artistic adviser for decorative art companies from Johann Loetz to Thonet. There are many ways to perceive and interpret contemporary craft objects - for instance, as works of representational art in materials like ceramics, glass, textile, metal or wood, or as functional, handmade everyday objects. In this publication, the editors have invited different voices in craft theory to investigate the perception of contemporary craft as a particular discourse and aesthetic vocabulary. According to the editors, contemporary crafts can benefit from being discussed as representations of reality that do not rely on the concept of autonomy. As such, neither do they rely on the conventional dualism between aesthetic objects and everyday things. The authors investigate the possibility to perceive craft objects from perspectives that relate to the aesthetic tradition of materialism.

Arnoldsche Gisbert Stach: Jewellery and Experiment
Gisbert Stach's (b. 1963) monograph Jewellery and Experiment presents a multifaceted opus from twenty-five years of gold- and silversmithing. In his oeuvre the primarily conceptual artist combines jewellery with video, photography and performance. One focus of his work deals with processes of transformation and experiment - pieces disappear through chemical dissolution, and form is determined by agencies of growth in nature. Stach works with means of alienation and irritation. Ground amber serves as pigment, which he works into jewellery pieces in the form of fish fingers, sliced bread or schnitzel. A further characteristic of his work is the performative act, for example when brooches are pelted with knives. Arnoldsche Fotosommer Stuttgart 2010
Fotosommer Stuttgart, the now internationally established forum for contemporary photography began eight years ago as an exhibition project organised by committed photographers. As the largest festival in the German southwest of national and international renown it provides a survey of the current international photo scene as well as of regional tendencies. The festival's award show encompasses a broad spectrum of works, ranging from artistic to documentary photography. From over 500 submissions for the international competition the jury chose the works of 31 photographers, including the three prize winners of the Süd-westbank Fotosommer awards. Arnoldsche Antoine Leperlier
Antoine Leperlier (b. 1953) is a trained visual artist and painter. He has been working as a freelance glass artist since the 1980s, developing his own glass technique based on casting and the lost-wax technique to create large-format translucent and painterly blocks.In this survey of work spanning more than 40 years, skulls float, snakes are frozen alive, and what looks like abstract watercolours are preserved forever. A hundred years after the death of Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920), the time has come to re-examine the artist’s controversial place in Modernist art history. By examining a select group of outstanding originals, this recent study celebrates his best work through advances in our understanding of the painter’s techniques. This focused analysis of the artist, which centres on his maturity as a sculptor and painter, includes characteristic examples across Modigliani’s major genres, especially portraiture and female nudes. Lace was a passion of Leopold Iklé (1838-1922), scion of a Hamburg textile dynasty who successfully produced machine-made embroidery over the course of the industrial boom in St. Gallen around 1900. He exported to England, France and the United States, among other places, at a time when St. Gallen was the market leader in the lace industry. Iklé's collection of handmade European bobbin lace and needlepoint from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century originally served as inspiration for his firm's textile designers. Through his passion for collecting, however, it quickly surpassed the practical demands of a simple pattern collection, and in 1904 he donated it to the Textile Museum St. Gallen. The !Xun & Khwe Art Project was developed in 1993 in a refugee camp in Schmidtsdrift, South Africa. After being party to the struggles for liberation from colonial rule, endangered groups of San people from Namibia and Angola were relocated there. Arnoldsche Claus Bury: Hanau New Town Map
The Hanau City Map project by Claus Bury relates to the new city of Hanau, which was formed from 1597 on and is characterised by its strictly geometric pattern of streets and star-shaped ramparts. The walk-on granite sculpture on the square directly next to the Walloon-Dutch church references the city map engraved in copper in 1632 by Matthäus Merian and revitalises Hanau’s historical 17th century topography through its relief-like recesses and encompassing seating areas. Arnoldsche Therese Hilbert RED: Jewelry 1966–2020
This exhibition catalogue for a show at the Neue Sammlung (Design Museum) in Munich documents the first solo show by Swiss jewellery artist Therese Hilbert, former student of Max Fröhlich in Zurich and Hermann Jünger in Munich. Ruudt Peters (b. 1950) is a pioneering conceptual jewellery artist who challenges traditional definitions of adornment by pushing the boundaries of context, wearability, material and presentation.
