Silvana Svenja Deininger: Two Thoughts
The volume documents the artistic project conceived by the painter Svenja Deininger (Vienna, 1974) for the Maramotti Collection of Reggio Emilia. It’s a cycle of pictorial works inspired by the work of the Polish artist Władysław Strzeminski, protagonist of the historical avant-garde of the 1920s, of which four paintings of the Muzeum Sztuki of Łódz are documented: in her work, although far from the historical and theoretical point of view, Svenja Deininger recognises an unexpected formal affinity and a common deep research on the essence of vision and painting. The compositions of lines and colours of the Austrian artist refer to an abstract dimension, but her imagination draws on a reality of concrete forms and objects, which are transposed and hybridised on the canvas. The flat appearance of the surface of the works is often disrupted by a careful observation which reveals different levels of depth and texture, which the artist obtained by mixing plaster, marble powder or glue with oil colours. Text in English and Italian.

Quercus Publishing Poems to Fix a F**ked Up World
Sometimes it's hard to keep looking up at the stars when the gutter we're in seems so full of sh*t. But isn't that why we need poetry? Oscar Wilde wrote some of his best poetry when he was in prison for 'the love that dare not speak its name'. Nelson Mandela held fast to his 'unconquerable soul' on Robben Island with the help of the words a poet wrote about his battle with tuberculosis a century before. So maybe it's not inconceivable that the words in this little book could help you put some of the sh*t in perspective, get all the important bits of your life - like sleep, work, food, travel, love and learning - in some kind of balance, so you can go back to star-gazing again . . . Taking as its starting point the classic 'wheel of balance' life-coach model, this beautifully packaged collection of extracts and short poems gathers wisdom old and new in a perfect gift for anyone who needs comfort in this f**ked up world of ours.'This is not a poetry book as you know it, this is a life raft.' Emerald Street on Poems for a World Gone to Sh*t.

Penguin Books Ltd New Daughters of Africa: An International Anthology of Writing by Women of African descent
Three decades after her pioneering anthology, Daughters of Africa, Margaret Busby curates an extraordinary collection of contemporary writing by 200 women writers of African descent, including Zadie Smith, Bernardine Evaristo and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. A glorious portrayal of the richness and range of African women's voices, this major international book brings together their achievements across a wealth of genres. From Antigua to Zimbabwe and Angola to the USA, overlooked artists of the past join key figures, popular contemporaries and emerging writers in paying tribute to the heritage that unites them, the strong links that endure from generation to generation, and their common obstacles around issues of race, gender and class.Bold and insightful, brilliant in its intimacy and universality, this landmark anthology honours the talents of African daughters and the inspiring legacy that connects them-and all of us.The New Daughters of AfricaDiane AbbottYassmin Abdel-MagiedLeila AboulelaAyobami AdebayoSade AdeniranChimamanda Ngozi AdichieZoe AdjonyohPatience AgbabiAgnès AgbotonCandace AllenLisa Allen-AgostiniEllah Wakatama AllfreyAndaiyeHarriet AnenaJoan Anim-AddoMonica Arac de NyekoYemisi AribisalaYolanda Arroyo PizarroAmma AsanteMichelle AsantewaNana Asma'uSefi AttaAyesha Harruna AttahGabeba BaderoonYaba BadoeYvonne Bailey-SmithDoreen BainganaEllen Banda-AakuAngela BarryMildred K. Sounds True Inc Self-Acceptance Project: How to be Kind and Compassionate Toward Yourself in Any Situation
Even after years of spiritual practice, self-improvement, or therapy, many of us still have trouble with one essential challenge: self-acceptance. How do we stop from constantly judging ourselves as inadequate, finding fault with our bodies, or being plagued by our inner critics? The Self-Acceptance Project was created to help us find a solution. In this collection of essays, contemporary luminaries in spirituality, psychology, and creativity offer insights and teachings for truly embracing who we are no matter what our circumstances, including: • "Waking Up from the Trance of Unworthiness"—Tara Brach illuminates the source of self-rejection and offers a powerful process to reverse unconscious patterns • "Compassion for the Self-Critic"—Dr. Kristin Neff shows how self-judgment is often a misplaced but well-meaning survival instinct • "Held, Not Healed"—Jeff Foster on making the space to accept anything that arises with open-hearted curiosity • "No Strangers in the Heart"—poet Mark Nepo helps us reconnect to the sense of deep aliveness that we were born with • "Taking in the Good"—Dr. Rick Hanson offers effective neuroscience-based insights and practices for overcoming our "negativity bias" • "Transforming Self-Criticism into Self-Compassion"—Dr. Kelly McGonigal reveals practical strategies for changing the habitual way we treat ourselves Why is it often so much easier to feel compassion and forgiveness toward others than toward ourselves? Where do our self-critical voices come from? Can we be motivated to grow and excel while still accepting ourselves as we are? In these 19 offerings, some of today’s most trusted teachers share their most valuable practices and techniques for building confidence, transforming our relationship with our inner critics, and using any circumstance as an opportunity to treat ourselves with kindness, compassion, and love.

Everyman River Poems
Rivers were the arteries of our first civilizations - the Tigris and Euphrates of Mesopotamia, India's Ganges, Egypt's Nile, the Yellow River of China - and have nourished modern cities from London to New York, so it is natural that poets have for centuries drawn essential meanings and metaphors from their endless currents. English poets from Shakespeare and Dryden, Wordsworth and Byron to Ted Hughes, John Betjeman and Alice Oswald; Irish poets - Eavan Boland, Seamus Heaney, Paul Muldoon, to name but a few; Scottish and Welsh poets from Henry Vaughan and Robert Louis Stevenson to Robin Robertson and Gillian Clarke. A whole raft of American poets from Whitman, Emerson and Emily Dickinson to Langston Hughes, Mary Oliver, Natasha Trethewey and Grace Paley. Folk songs. African-American spirituals. Poems from ancient Egypt and Rome. From medieval China and Japan. And a truly international selection of modern poets from Europe (France, Italy, Russia, Serbia), India, Africa, Australia and South and Central America, all combining in celebration of the rivers of the world. From the Mississippi to the Limpopo. From the Dart to the Danube. Plunge in.
