Taylor & Francis Ltd Tough Issues, Tough Choices: Resources for Staff and Student Development
Tough Issues: Resources for staff and student development by Tina Rae and Brian Marris This exciting and challenging resource focuses upon the issues, problems and concerns of teenagers in today's increasingly diverse and complex society. Social, emotional and behavioural issues relevant to these young people are presented in a three part programme which was originally developed and trialled within the context of a Pupil Referral Unit and a Mainstream High School. Tough Issues aims to address some of the 'real' concerns and agendas of teenagers today. Whilst it fulfils many of the objectives of the KS3 and KS4 PSHE curriculum, it also promotes the development of emotional literacy, equal opportunities and social justice. A central objective is to encourage students to develop their own voice, to take ownership of their own behaviours, values and responses and to become reflective young adults able to effectively identify and challenge social injustice. The programme is presented in three parts, each containing 8 scenarios with accompanying teaching resources and activities. The issues presented are often extremely challenging and hard hitting and include the following: * Underage age pregnancy * Graffiti * ASBOs * Date rape * Homophobia * Anorexia * Racism * Death * Relationship breakdown * Peer pressure * Arson * Alcohol abuse * Obesity * Bullying * Drug abusive The structure of the sessions is consistent throughout to allow for ease of delivery and includes evaluation sheets, image cards, question and answer sessions, acting out of the scenario and take home activities to reinforce and build upon the learning undertaken. A CD-ROM accompanies the programme and this includes all the activites, image cards, take home activities and photographic images. This is a unique resource and of real relevance to today's young people. It certainly challenges our young people to reflect upon their own emotional, behavioural and social needs and the ways in which they can and should develop self-help strategies and appropriate problem solving skills to cope effectively with the issues and challenges of today's world. The content is hard-hitting but if we fail to address these issues, due to our own 'adult' embarrassments and fears then we also fail the young people we are seeking to support, challenge and develop. Tough Issues - Focusing on the real issues, problems and concerns of today's teenagers is suitable for young people aged 13 - 18 years.

Museum of Glass: International Center for Contemporary Art Complementary Contrasts: The Glass and Steel Structures of Albert Paley
Complementary Contrasts: The Glass and Steel Sculptures of Albert Paley highlights the significance of glass in the work of the celebrated sculptor Albert Paley. Though best known for his large-scale metal sculptures, Paley has incorporated glass in many works for over a decade. After beginning his career as a jewelry maker, Paley soon transitioned to furniture and freestanding sculpture. In the 1970s, Paley delved into large, site-specific works that blurred the line between sculpture and architecture. Despite disparity in size, Paley’s collective artworks display a synergy of forms and philosophy, favoring natural curves and lines that defy their rigid materials. In 1999 Paley was invited to Pilchuck Glass School to collaborate with artist Dante Marioni. His experience utilizing fire to manipulate metal translated naturally into his glass design and allowed him to embrace the new material with ease. Since this initial introduction, Paley has collaborated with a number of glass artists and created over a hundred sculptures incorporating glass. The first book to focus on Paley’s glass and steel sculpture, Complementary Contrasts includes approximately forty new sculptures created at the Museum of Glass in collaboration with Seattle-based glass sculptor Martin Blank. These sculptures will be supported by earlier works from Paley’s personal collection. Thirty works on paper that illuminate Paley’s process of incorporating glass in his sculpture are also illustrated. Collectively, the objects in this publication demonstrate a culmination of Paley’s talents as a sculptor.

SPCK Publishing Are You Sad, Little Bear?: A book about learning how to say goodbye
Grandmother Bear has gone for ever, and Little Bear is feeling sad. His mother wisely suggests that perhaps asking his woodland companions what saying goodbye means to them will help him understand his loss. Little Bear's day of exploring and asking questions brings him comfort and hope. For the swallows, saying goodbye means flying to warmer lands; for the leaves of the trees it is a chance to be free, leaving the tree at her most beautiful; for the moon it is to return to be with the Sun; and for the Sun it is to rise in another sky and just because Little Bear can't see him doesn't mean he isn't there. This charmingly illustrated picture book will help young children in times of bereavement, loss or change, gently exploring the reasons for saying goodbye and giving reassurance that goodbye doesn't mean the end of things.

HarperCollins Publishers Lost in London: Adventures in the city's wild outdoors
London is one of the most exciting cities in the world-dynamic, noisy, colourful - and non-stop. It can also be exhausting, crowded and intense. So for those of us who like to stop, breathe and enjoy a slower pace of life, Lost in London is for you. If you prefer to spend your weekends walking on London’s commons, or hunting down fireside pubs for a pint rather than frequenting cocktail bars or clubs, then read on. Lost In London first began life as a magazine. From this, its founders Lucy and Tina, have lovingly created a beautiful book that unearths a hidden treasure - the secret side of London. This urban nature guide shows us how to slow down and reconnect with the greener side of the capital. Sections include a guide to exploring the city’s reservoirs, cemeteries, and meadows, an alternative look at the Thames and London’s lakes, canals and wetlands, and an entire section dedicated to foraging, beekeeping and henkeeping. The book is full of delicious recipes for you to make using your foraged food, such as damson gin, pontack, pork, apple and black pudding pasties and blackberry vinegar. There’s gardening advice with suggestions on how to make the most of your allotment, rooftop or window box, practical ideas for outdoorsy day trips, and a brilliant guide to the animals, insects and birds that share our city. Packed with stunning illustrations, gorgeous photography and handy maps, this is an indispensable, inspirational guide to living simply in the city. Lucy Scott and Tina Smith launched Lost in London magazine three years ago over a shared passion for the natural world and reflecting its place in urban life. It was intended to be a oneoff experimental portfolio project, but it quickly established as one of the most foremost independent magazine titles around.

Nick Hern Books The Viewpoints Book: A Practical Guide to Viewpoints and Composition
In The Viewpoints Book, first published in the United States, acclaimed theatre directors Anne Bogart and Tina Landau introduce the history, terminology and philosophy of Viewpoints, and offer a step-by-step recipe for using it as both a training tool and a rehearsal technique. Viewpoints is a technique of improvisation that grew out of the post-modern dance world, allowing actors to learn to function spontaneously and intuitively. It was first articulated by choreographer Mary Overlie, whose ideas have been expanded and developed by Anne Bogart and Tina Landau, adapting them for the use of actors. Over the last twenty years, Viewpoints has ignited the imaginations of actors, directors, designers, choreographers, dramaturgs and writers. It is taught all over the world and used by countless theatre-makers in the rehearsal process to develop flexibility, articulation and strength in movement, and to enrich ensemble playing. An invaluable resource for theatre-makers, as well as for anyone with an interest in collaboration and the creative process, whether in art, business or daily life. 'Viewpoints is timeless – a system belonging to the natural principles of movement, time and space. It is a philosophy translated into a technique for training performers, building ensemble, and creating movement for the stage' Anne Bogart and Tina Landau

Harvard Business Review Press Shared Sisterhood: How to Take Collective Action for Racial and Gender Equity at Work
Gender equity can't happen without racial equity. We need Shared Sisterhood.Bias persists in organizations and society. Despite efforts that have been made in the last few decades, gender and racioethnic equity still hasn’t been achieved. What's worse, Black, Indigenous, Asian, and Latina women are being held back more than their White counterparts. We need to change how we strive for equity. We must move beyond individual solutions toward collective action, where people from historically power-dominant and marginalized groups work together, so that all women experience the benefits of professional growth and equity. We need Shared Sisterhood, and anyone, regardless of gender, can join in.Professor Tina Opie first started Shared Sisterhood as a movement to drive gender and racial equity in organizations. Since then, she and professor Beth A. Livingston have worked together to spread the word to leaders across organizations, with thousands of followers joining the cause. In this book, they explain how to use vulnerability, trust, empathy, and risk-taking to build Shared Sisterhood and break down three key parts of the process: Dig into your own assumptions around racioethnicity, gender, and power Bridge the divide between women of all backgrounds through authentic relationships Advance all women across the organization and beyond Balancing a mix of history, research, and real-life examples—including the authors' own experiences—this book encourages everyone to join Shared Sisterhood and advance equity for all.

Taylor & Francis Ltd Sustainably Improving Health Care: Creatively Linking Care Outcomes, System Performance and Professional Development
Culture, Context and Quality in Health Sciences Research, Education, Leadership and Patient Care (Second book in a series of five) Sustainably Improving Health Care promotes the importance of integrating improved care outcomes, system performance, and professional development so that the future of health-care advancement is creative and sustainable. It addresses the challenge of creating and nurturing a culture of continuous improvement that is able to sustain and generate creative professional work for the improvement of health care. Using real-world examples, the book succinctly reveals how the model can be practically applied from a variety of different perspectives. "This book makes the persuasive argument that well-intended efforts to redesign and reform health care will enjoy only short lives without the full commitment and engagement of the health-care worker - the product of the sustainability- and capacity-building engine of professional development." Dave Davis MD, CCFP, FCFP, in the Foreword "This book is about a model that has emerged from our own work, our observations of the work of colleagues and others, and our refl ections about the requirements for the future of the continual improvement of health care. We explore its origins, its content and manifestations, and its implications, particularly for health professional leaders interested in the ongoing improvement of health care. Form and vitality develop in the model as it engages reality - the reality of trying to create cultures of sustainable, generative approaches to the ongoing improvement of health care."
