Description

Book Synopsis
Offers a comprehensive introduction to playing the guitar. Suitable for acoustic or electric guitar, this title features an introduction to TAB and standard notation; guitar techniques including tuning, power chords, barre chords, hammer-ons, string bending, sliding and left-hand damping; and classic songs from legendary artists.

Trade Review

Suitable for both acoustic and electric guitar, this step-by-step approach needs no prior knowledge of music. Indeed, the book covers all the areas expected from a good tutor, clearly illustrated, and with plenty of extra help and "top tips"! ……

School Music Association, Spring 2008

Judged on its avowed intention of getting you started - nothing more, nothing less - we'd say this is as good a guide as any to begin tackling the fundamentals of guitar, and to have some fun into the bargain. As with any good beginner's guide, author Tom Fleming wants to get you into good habits from the off (hence the info on posture, correct hand position, the importance of tuning, guitar notation and so on).

Guitarist, January 2008

Starting off on the road to playing guitar well is daunting, not least regarding what tutorial sources are worth your time and pennies. Try this then - Tom Fleming's The Ultimate Guitar Tutor. It's a bold title, but it does do a good job at priming you from posture to strumming rhythm exercises, and chord shapes to string bends. Throughout there are short examples to hone your skills and a generous amount of songs to learn by Elvis Presley, Nirvana and REM. As a tenner would rarely get you an hour's tuition with a guitar teacher these days, we reckon even if you have a few beginner books already this one should be added to the pile!

Guitar Techniques, November 2007
