Description

The Sexual Trafficking in Children is well written and thoroughly researched. It seems to capture the attention of a wide audience because the book goes into depth about a variety of issues that have not previously been compiled at such a comprehesive level. Criminal Justice Review This illuminating, sensitive volume confronts this disturbing social problem by providing much-needed information on the crimes, the perpetrators, and the victims of the child sex trade--information that social service practitioners, law enforcement agencies, advocacy groups, and legislators must have to deal effectively with the problem. Based on five years of field research, the study examines the dynamics and characteristics of participants in various underage sex markets, such as child pornography, juvenile prostitution, sex tourism, indenturing, and sex rings. It includes extensive interviews with victims, exploiters, and agency practitioners; field observations of juvenile prostitutions and their pimps and customers in several cities; and case studies derived from the files of police departments and social service agencies. Efforts to help victims overcome the psychological and practical impacts of their experiences are described, as are law enforcement approaches and judicial responses. The authors argue for legislative reform and recommend policies and programs designed to minimize the sexual victimization of minors.
