Book Synopsis

The definitive bible for the field of biomedical engineering, this collection of volumes is a major reference for all practicing biomedical engineers and students. Now in its fourth edition, this work presents a substantial revision, with all sections updated to offer the latest research findings. New sections address drugs and devices, personalized medicine, and stem cell engineering. Also included is a historical overview as well as a special section on medical ethics. This set provides complete coverage of biomedical engineering fundamentals, medical devices and systems, computer applications in medicine, and molecular engineering.

Trade Review

"This handbook is one of the most interesting and most complete and largest books in the field of biomedical engineering. Apart from the basic information in the field of biomechanics and biomedical devices for signal and biomedical image processing, it also covers the area of molecular biology. It will be a valuable resource for advanced undergraduate students and doctoral students as well as engineers and physicians during specialization. It is continually updated, bringing together articles written by the most famous scientists in the world. Certainly, this book should be available, either in hardcopy in libraries or online, to every student or professional involved in biomedical engineering."

"This massive compendium of biomedical engineering information is the latest edition of Bronzino’s handbook (previous editions in 1995, 1999, and 2006). It now consists of four hefty stand-alone volumes: Biomedical Engineering Fundamentals, Medical Devices and Human Engineering, Biomedical Signals, Imaging, and Informatics, and Molecular, Cellular, and Tissue Engineering, running in total to almost 5500 pages and hundreds of thoroughly researched entries, each including necessary formulae, charts, illustrations, and substantial bibliographies. Each volume contains a CD with selected illustrations in pdf format. The entries are almost completely rewritten from earlier editions, with significant additions of new material, including a section on ethics in the final volume. Each volume contains a preface, list of contributors (mostly from significant universities in the United States, but with some international contributors), and a volume-specific index. The breadth and depth of the material is exhaustive. ... Recommended for libraries with a biomedical program, especially given its competitive price."
