This is a special anniversary issue in celebration of the 50th volume in the Yearbook of Liturgy and Hymnology series. It opens with a review of the history of this series of yearbooks. To celebrate the special occasion, a new facsimile edition of the so-called "Eight-Song Book" of 1524 has also been published. The President of the Council of the Protestant Church of Germany (EKD), Nikolaus Schneider, wrote a Foreword for the volume and praised both the scientific efforts displayed by the Yearbook as well as the work that has been done to make liturgy and hymnology a part of everyday church life.The liturgical contributions concern the future perspectives of liturgy in the Protestant Church of Germany. The volume is rounded off by a historical review of the past few years. The section on hymnology is devoted to questions surrounding music in the Church and other publications in this regard.
