This selection of over 200 old photographs of Rossendale has been chosen from the extensive archives in Bacup, Haslingdon, Rawtenstall and Whitworth libraries by the author who spent many years as the Reference Librarian. The area covered by the photographs is the Borough of Rossendale established by the 1974 local government re-organisation.
These wonderful photographs show a different world from the one we know today. Here are scenes of streets and buildings and local industry as they were but also many more showing people going about their everyday lives at home or school, visiting family-run shops, enjoying their leisure time activities, and we share with them their celebrations and disasters. The book will delight all who have grown up in the area but it will also give a younger generation, and newcomers, a glimpse of how Rossendale was, just a short while ago.
