Book SynopsisThis commentary on the book of Malachi follows the format the series Historical Commentary of the Old Testament has become known for (a new translation, essentials and perspectives, scholarly exposition including an introduction to and a verse by verse exegesis). The commentary incorporates the most recent research on the book of Malachi and provides the reader with a fresh translation where more than one possible translation is given at some problematic verses. The stylistic device of antithesis used predominantly in the book of Malachi is highlighted illustrating the impact this has on the understanding of the book. A new look at the literary genres used in the book is also given together with a reconsideration of the demarcation of some of the units. Attention is also paid to the theological message of each unit as well as of the book as a whole.
