Having grown up on two continents, Europe and America, he began an intensive artistic exploration of the extreme format of panorama photography in 1985. But it was not until 1991 that what Hamann's followers adore about him today happened: He turned his camera to portrait format for the first time at the intersection of 41st Street and Avenue of the Americas and has since been called the "inventor" of vertical photography among insiders.
