Description

Book Synopsis
The Old Testament book of Threni consists of five songs. They lament the suffering of the people at the destruction of Jerusalem in 587 BC. BC, but also testify to a discussion on how to deal with suffering. On the one hand, God is accused of having caused the suffering, on the other hand, he is exonerated and the reason for the suffering is sought in the guilt of those affected. On the one hand there is fierce lamentation, on the other hand it is demanded that suffering be endured in silence. The commentary offers an interpretation of the individual songs as well as the composition as a whole.
