Taylor & Francis Inc The Silent Language of Psychotherapy
Book SynopsisTherapeutic changes occur in many places, and among animals as well as humans. A theory that attempts to explain therapeutic changes should be based on principles that apply not only to those changes occurring during the hour, but also to those observed in the educational process, in interpersonal relations, and in the social milieu, as well as with animals. It would be desirable to discover principles broad enough to provide a deeper understanding of therapeutic change in this wide variety of situations.Experienced therapists appear to be similar in what they are doing, although they may disagree as to why they do it. In spite of the arguments about theoretical formulations, it can be observed that during an hour with a patient many psychotherapists may not follow their own theories too well. There probably is some relevance in a comparison of psychotherapy with a concept formation test: the subject gives the correct answers but is unable to state why he did so or what princTable of Contents1: Introduction and Overview; 2: The Anatomy of a Message Structure and Motivation; 3: Developing Patterns Choosing Responses to the Environment; 4: Information-Gathering Process in Psychotherapy; 5: The Use of Conventions; 6: Interventions in Psychotherapy; 7: Labeling the Therapist’s Activity; 8: Content Choices in the Psychotherapeutic Hour; 9: Extratherapeutic Incidents; 10: Technical Problems in the Therapeutic Process; 11: Communication Analysis in Family Group and Group Therapy; 12: The Child’s Communication in Therapy; 13: The Changing Landscape of Psychotherapy Practice Managed Care; 14: The Therapist as a Consultant; 15: Supervision in Communication Analytic Therapy *; 16: Nonverbal Communication in Psychotherapy; 17: The Ethical Problems of Control of Behavior; 18: Pills and Caring Talk; 19: Summary and Conclusions

Cornell University Press Chicago Aviation
Book SynopsisFrom the dawn of flight, Chicago has played a vital role in the development of aviation. Favored by geography and a superb network of railroads, the Windy City rapidly became the nation''s crossroad. Young''s richly illustrated history portrays the inventors, entrepreneurs, and aviators who conquered the skies and made Chicago the nation''s premier hub for air travel and transport. Aviation''s colorful figures come to life as Young recounts tales of the pilots, patrons, and passengers who sparked public interest in the early days of flight. Beginning with Chicago''s first aviation event—a balloon ascension on July 4, 1855—Young traces the local personalities and technologies that helped make the dream of flight a reality. He offers the most complete account to date of pioneer Chicago aviator Octave Chanute, whose series of daring glider experiments led to international attention and a friendship with the Wright brothers, who sought his advice before their laTrade Review"Original.... John Wiley & Sons Inc ABC of Colorectal Cancer
Book SynopsisColorectal cancer is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in which prevention, screening and early detection are vital. Beginning with the patient perspective and following the patient pathway, this new second edition covers epidemiology and prevention, screening programmes, decision support networks, the role of primary care, and supportive care for patients with colorectal cancer. The ABC of Colorectal Cancer provides the core knowledge on clinical genetics, diagnosis, imaging, therapy and surgery options and the latest evidence based guidelines for treating and managing colorectal cancer patients within the multidisciplinary team. Highly illustrated and accessible, it covers the full spectrum of the disease to provide the basis to make a real difference to clinical management. This is an invaluable practical guide for the non-specialist on all aspects of colorectal cancer, and is ideal for general practitioners, junior doctors, nurses and allied health professTrade Review“This short clinical review book of CRC strikes an excellent balance being both concise but with thorough and up-to-date coverage of the subject matter. The chapters based on their size, layout, and supporting figures are very approachable and I would suspect the book to be very useful to its intended audience of general practitioners and physicians in training. The text would seem to be most useful to those practicing clinical medicine, but could also serve as supplemental reading for those preparing for board-type examinations.” (Gastroenterology, 1 August 2012) “The information in the ABC of Colorectal Cancer is very well presented and the coverage is more than a GP would need in clinical practice.” (Australian Family Physician, 4 April 2012)Table of ContentsContributors vii Preface ix 1 The Patient Perspective 1 Kevin Bond 2 Epidemiology and Prevention 4 Peter Boyle, Patrick Mullie, Maria Paula Curado and David Zaridze 3 Pathways of Carcinogenesis 8 Michael Christie and Oliver Sieber 4 Clinical Genetics in the Management of Colon Cancer 13 Kai Ren Ong, Vicky Bowyer and Trevor Cole 5 Screening for Colorectal Cancer 19 Julietta Patnick and Wendy S.
