Description
Book SynopsisTrade ReviewTo Albania, with Love demonstrates a masterful grasp of history and biography and the relations between the two. Through a remarkably reflexive set of circumstances, Fatos Tarifa's biography intersected with history in such a way that he found himself in a role in which he has been able to instruct others on the intersection of biography and history! Dr. Tarifa's situation and talents are rare and unusual. But I purposely avoided the 'unique,' because there are others who have found themselves in a position to observe, to comment, and to employ the sociological imagination as he has done here. Of course, this in no way detracts from his accomplishments. To the contrary, when we consider some of the people who are in his small group, his contributions appear all the more remarkable." -- Jay Weinstein, Eastern Michigan University
Fatos Tarifa's ardor and devotion to his country, as To Albania, with Love clearly reveals, can only be described as Jeffersonian. He is a modern day intellectual democratic innovator. -- Dr. Richard Cameron, Webster University
Fatos Tarifa is one of those individuals who is able to teach by example, while remaining committed to the future of his country. There are many reasons to be pessimistic about the future of Albania; but fortunately, Fatos Tarifa, with his book To Albania, with Love, has convinced me that we now have a chance to make an enormous difference in the future history of this country. -- Professor Barbara Heyns, New York University
Fatos Tarifa has been by far the most accomplished, courageous, effective and respected of all ambassadors who have represented Albania in the United States. He is also a remarkably well educated social and political scientist. He single-handedly put Albania on the map in a most favorable way in Washington as well as across the United States. Tarifa was truly of a different class than his fellow Albanian ambassadors. It has been said that Albania over the years has been more distant from Europe than Europe has been from the United States. This still might be true. To Albania, with Love does much to close that distance. -- Peter Lucas, veteran political columnist, Boston Globe and Boston Herald
