The 15 paintings featured here continue Nozkowski’s use of rich color and his abstract visual language that related to personal memories or experiences of the world. Mayer recounts his own personal experiences with the work and details Nozkowski’s approach to pictorial abstraction, one that involved the nuances of feeling rather than confident identification to achieve his oeuvre, or what the writer calls “a record of creative thought.” The catalog also includes remembrances of the artist written by Peter Schjeldahl, Catherine Murphy, Jennifer Gross, Joseph Masheck, Robert Storr, Karen Wilkin, and Martin Puryear. An illustrated chronology of Nozkowski’s life and career includes personal photographs and drawings.
