Book SynopsisTom Tinderlee is planning to escape from his cruel guardians when he encounters an Obedere, a time controller. This meeting offers him a chance to join a sanctuary for children built by tribes of giants known as Stak, located on a distant planet beyond the known stars. It also renews his hope of finding his teacher''s brother, who vanished years ago and may have travelled with the Obedere.
On his arrival, Tom discovers that his new home harbours dark secrets. The sanctuary is threatened by an ancient predator which, after centuries of sleep is about to wake from its underground lair. Driven by curiosity Tom ventures into forbidden caves where the creature stirs.
