Book SynopsisThe first book-length study of Thomas Hoccleve’s ‘Series’ (1419-21), a medieval compilation of texts that exemplify several different literary forms: complaint, dialogue, tale and moralization, and treatise. It combines close textual reading with study of the manuscripts.
Trade ReviewWatt aims to show how attention to specific cases of book-‘making’ (both in the sense of composition and in the sense of physical construction) can contribute to larger narratives about the making and reading of books in the later medieval period.
