Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart''s TheMagic Flute can rightly be called his most famous opera; for many it is even the origin of German opera. After the rather moderate success of the premiere at the end of September 1791 in Vienna, under the direction of Mozart himself, the almost three-hour work quickly rose in reputation and was performed over 100 times by November of the same year. This edition is based on the autograph and the text edition from 1792. Editor Kurt Soldan did not take any modifications or subsequently added content into account.
