Book Synopsis

The short story is popular in Wales with both readers and writers, attracting the talents of the country''s foremost authors. Here, twenty-five English-language writers provide a story each to produce an entertaining and varied anthology.

Horror, satire, humour, war, tales of the aristocracy, of navvies, love and madness, industry, the countryside, politics and sport: the stories in The Green Bridge provide an insight into the changing values of Wales and the world.

This is enjoyable reading for those who know Wales and its authors, and for newcomers to both. John Davies has previously edited The Valleys with Mike Jenkins and The Streets and the Stars with Melvyn Jones. He is himself an acclaimed poet, his most recent book being North by South.

Born in 1944, John Davies was brought up in Port Talbot, south Wales, and in Prestatyn where he taught English. He has also taught in Michigan and Washington. In 1986 The Visitor''s Book, his third collection, was joint winner of the Poetry Society''s major award, the Alice Hunt Bartlett Prize. John Davies is also a talented wood carver.
