Trade ReviewGreat material which makes for a great read. Not only for educators but for just about anyone who works with young people. Even parents will find this to be a gold mine of a book. With many districts implementing procedures to avoid punitive measures, I’ve found that effective relationship building still allows educational leaders to maintain a firm structure and learning environment. And this book tells you how to do it. I would encourage any and all professional development directors to invest in this material. Finally a book that every educator should read! Parker, Barnes, and Kohler-Evans really brought home the concept of the importance of building relationships with students and creating a classroom environment with consistent routines so students know what is expected of them. They teach that with these important factors in place, students will feel confident in taking academic risks and taking more ownership of their learning. Awesome book! As a building level principal and instructional leader, 'Success Favors’ will be a go-to book to not only use with new teachers but also with novice teachers. In times of such rigorous learning, teachers must have strategies to impact and influence relationships with students and build a sense of community and positive classroom climate. During my time as an Elementary Instructional Facilitator I have attended numerous professional development sessions which have helped me become skilled at assisting teachers in deepening their pedagogical knowledge, as well as, improving instruction and increasing student engagement. However, one of the most prominent needs I continue to see is that of being able to successfully manage a classroom. While there are many books and professional development opportunities available, they all seem to lack the personal approach.
