Book Synopsis
Although we have been living in a time and society for a long time that can be described as strongly sexualized in certain areas - such as advertising - the scientific-theological thematization of sexuality as a central aspect of being human has long played a rather marginal role . Most of the time, individual ethical-moral theological aspects, such as questions of reproductive medicine, traditional and new concepts of marriage and partnership, or living together in families were and are being discussed. In recent years, shaken by the increasing number of abuse cases that have come to the public, there has been an increased scientific analysis of sexual and spiritual abuse. But this did not encourage discussion of a positive theological view of sexuality. The present yearbook would like to make an extensive contribution to the discourse through various theological disciplines. Starting with exemplary representations of central biblical aspects and texts as well as the role of sexuality in selected writings of classical Judaism, the volume takes historical course, such as the asceticization of the clergy in the 4th and 5th centuries, the establishment of compulsory celibacy or the role of sexuality in and for marriage in the late Middle Ages and with Martin Luther. Current topics from the area of sexual diversity, the sexualization of everyday life in Western cultures in the mirror of the media and the hermeneutical question of sexuality and power complete the volume.
