Book Synopsis
This study introduces a new dual framework for securitization, called dual securitization, which regards securitization as a whole process that ends after the desecuritization of the given issue. The author examines this process in three phases: (1) definition, (2) construction, and (3) (in)securitization-in-action. Additionally, the dual securitization framework takes both bottom-up and top-down characteristics of the process of securitization into consideration and examines both macro-level decision-making processes and discursive efforts and micro-level security practices. The book looks at the FARC conflict in Colombia and the chapters of the study examine the contextual factors that facilitated the definition, construction and insecuritization-in-action phases of the dual securitization process.

Trade Review
The Colombian peace process has attracted significant international attention. It managed to overcome seeming intractability and produce an agreement to end conflict with one of the western hemisphere’s last insurgent groups. Also, it is now clear that it still faces significant challenges. As we all are still learning about the dynamics that made the peace process viable and those that will need to be addressed to make it sustainable, this timely work by Dr. Baysal provides a valuable look at the mutual securitization among the Colombian state and the FARC rebels, how this influenced the end of conflict, and how it still shapes post-agreement dynamics. -- Angelika Rettberg, Universidad de los Andes
“Dr. Basar Baysal provides an insightful take on securitization theory and its global application with Securitization and Desecuritization of FARC in Colombia: A Dual Perspective Analysis. This manuscript provides a meticulously detailed empirical study with a strong theoretical foundation. Dr. Baysal offers a rich reading of the peace process in Colombia through the securitization theory framework. The book is going to be a key text for those looking to see how securitization and de-securitization processes happen in transitional societies.” -- Can Mutlu, Acadia University
