Trade Review

I love other people’s quilt secrets, especially when they share them! This book reveals secrets to help you use your stash, even the smallest scraps. The author has developed the SCRAPS system. You might be familiar with the design ideas for using your stash. Yet these design tips will help you to design quilts you love. This book provides 16 scrap quilting projects. They are all good. The book provides full-size templates where necessary, full instructions with clear photos and diagrams.

The six design techniques are based on the acronym SCRAPS. Style is a personal choice, traditional, geometric patterns, folky etc. Constrast, more important than colour. Use a camera to check out colour values. Repetition, use one colour or shape in every block. Accent, one fabric to unite blocks e.g. as in sashing. Palette, limit colours to two or three. Selevedges are perhaps the mopst surprising, cut selvedges together by layering them to make striped fabric. Every area has two or more quilts for each technique. There are clear directions for many methods of piecing. It is an interesting approach to scrap quilts. It is my book of the month.
