Book SynopsisChapter One examines what available data indicate about pregnant women detained or held in DHS facilities, DHS policies and standards that address the care of pregnant women, and what is known about the care provided to pregnant women in DHS facilities. Chapter Two analyses what DOJ data indicate about pregnant women in USMS and BOP custody; the extent to which USMS and BOP policies align with national guidance on pregnancy-related care; and what is known about the care provided and the extent to which USMS and BOP track when pregnant women are placed in restrictive housing or restraints. Chapter Three contains the Protecting the Health and Wellness of Babies and Pregnant Women in Custody Act.
