In 2010 the Financial Times named him as one of thirty influential 'Eurostars'. He is the founder of the Brussels think tank Friends of Europe and its policy journal, Europe's World. In 2016 his previous book Slippery Slope: Europe's Troubled Future was shortlisted for the European Book Prize.
