Description
Book SynopsisPresents an introduction to some of the great and much loved American folksongs. This title also contains two individual songs including "Oh Shenandoah" and "Simple Gifts", which are complemented with a medley of light-hearted line dance tunes under the title "Low-down" and "Hoe-down".
Trade ReviewAlexander L'Estrange is a great and innovative arranger, surely one of the best we have around. Pretty well all of his arrangements are worth singing. These three American folksong settings with piano are superb. Shenandoah is a joy to sing, as is Simple Gifts: a real treat. The final piece, Low-down on the Hoe-down is effectively a re-hash of an old Swingle Singers arrangement, Country Dances, for a more realistic number of voices. It's absolutely brilliant, so grab your stetson, hold on tight and sing it as fast as you can. Satisfaction guaranteed.
