Book Synopsis
Lynn Bogue Hunt, called the 'Audubon of his time' by no less than the New York Times, produced over 106 covers for Field & Stream magazine in a career that spanned 56 years. He also produced classic art for stamps, cards, prints, and books, as well as illustrations for L.L. Bean catalog covers, glassware, tile, coasters and plates. In a biographical essay, Kevin Shelly describes Hunt as a man of contradictions: both an ardent animal lover and a hunter; someone who felt at home in the woods yet lived most of his life in suburban New York. Still, as George Reiger observes, 'Hunt's illustrations inspire strong feelings of nostalgia, because they evoke a time when outdoor recreation was still re-creation and not yet measured in man-hours of bottom lines.'

Trade Review
If you or your children are interested in outdoor art and painting, or you want to own a collection of F&S history, this is a must-have book. -- Scott Bowen * Field & Stream *
Shelly has done a remarkable job collecting snippets of the artist's days afield...Those who appreciate fine sporting art will find this book a keeper, but those who cherish the American literary movement in the early 20th century will find plenty of reading, too... Clearly writtten and nicely organized, it is richly spiced with Hunt's memorable work. In all, a fine testament to a talented artist. -- Matt Crawford * The Upland Almanac *
One part of the book has a nice color section of Hunt's sporting art. -- Anne Stinson * The Star Democrat *
