Based on the assumption that gender roles have become increasingly complex and differentiated in recent decades, the volume''s articles analyze the construction of gender in contemporary media products. The authors provide insights into the diverse media and genre-specific implementations of the construction, perpetuation and questioning of gender concepts in audiovisual media. In doing so, they look at the interplay of the different levels in which gendering is located in these media and, following a central approach of the volume, take a trans-media perspective.
