Book SynopsisThis book explores the history of the Senate''s role in choosing members of the cabinet in a new presidential administration. While some drafters of the Constitution believed the Senate''s role would be minimal, others said the Senate would play a large role. The role the Senate has played in the nomination process has depended, in part, upon the relationship between the President and the Senate. Nonetheless, while there have been many controversies over nominations, the vast majority of nominees eventually make it through the process and are confirmed. The Senate has also developed or adapted practices to deal with the confirmation process, none of which are explicitly contain in the Senate rules, but all of which have been adhered to and recognised by the chamber at one time or another. This book consists of public domain documents which have been located, gathered, combined, reformatted, and enhanced with a subject index, selectively edited and bound to provide easy access.
