Description
Essentials of Practical Biochemistry has been prepared in a user-friendly manner according to the requirements of medical, dental and paramedical students. Written in simple language, it provides all the relevant and essential information on various practical exercises that are required to be performed at undergraduate level. This textbook includes practical exercises on Qualitative Tests for Carbohydrates, Proteins, Amino Acids, Lipids and Non-protein Nitrogenous Substances, Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Urine, and of various Body Fluids, Quantitative Estimation of various metabolites like glucose, cholesterol, urea, creatinine, triglycerides, electrolytes, uric acid, albumin, etc. in serum/plasma, estimation of various Serum Diagnostic Enzymes, Organ Function Tests and Biochemical Techniques. For quick and easy understanding, the practical exercises have been described in several headings like Introduction, Principle, Materials/ Apparatus required, Procedure, Observations, Calculation and Result. In each practical exercise, a blank space has been provided for students to write down their own observations, readings and calculations. This textbook can therefore be used as a practical manual while working in the laboratory. Normally, students find difficulty in understanding the procedure and calculation portions of the quantitative practical exercises. To overcome this problem, procedure and calculation portions of most exercises have been simply explained with examples and space for calculation provided. For practice before examination, Test Exercises and Model Papers have also been provided. A list of reagents and solutions along with the procedures of their preparation and normal biochemical values required for routine clinical practice have also been given.
