The stories in this work are an assortment of bildungsroman, most of them recalling childhood experiences in Nigeria. They have been written bearing in mind the generation of young Africans born to Africans in the United States. Most of these individuals have spent little or no time on the continent, and are therefore unaware of the experiences and backgrounds from which their parents come. This collection regales the reader with tales of intrigue, fun and good humor as some of their parents knew them, at the same time providing them with another source of cultural entertainment. The stories narrated by the women reveal many cultural dilemmas encountered by some African women in America, who find themselves crushed by the cumbersome burden of their gender in a country that has no use for their complicated lifestyle.
